Hello, Community Forum.
I don't come around here as often, but I wanted to start off by saying that if a thread like this was posted before, I apologize. But, this idea I just had, if it were to ever be implemented, would help this to not happen.
I was in the Flood Forum for the most of the day, as I am when I ever get on Bnet, and I noticed that an insane amount of threads were about Gaddafi's (spelling?) death. Now, I don't know why this thought never clicked in my head before, but what if we had a system in which the site has a bank of keywords appropriate with the forum in question (possibly besides the Universe Forum) that questions if you want to continue with posting the thread?
A better explanation:
Say I were to post a thread titled "Man Releases Exotic Pets and Commits Suicide". The system would search the threads that have a similar title, and would bring those threads up on the page, along with the OP. Then you would be given the option to continue posting, if your OP is completely different and pertains to something else, but within the same topic, edit your topic or create a new one, or you could cancel your post. This could also reduce parody threads such as "A cat is on my porch" and "a porch is on my cat". I'm using lame examples but I'm sure you get the idea.
Now, I have no idea as to how this would possibly work, as it would have to be a system that I guess "scans" recent threads and keeps a close eye on hot topics. The system would also have to be tweaked to only be able to "see" recent topics, instead of older ones or even archived ones.
I understand the search bar can be used to find out if a thread pertaining to what the OP is trying to post has been made before, but we all know too well that no one really ever uses it. This would also prevent threads that have replies that read "gee, it's pretty cOLD out today".
Thoughts? Opinions? If you would like you could add to this.
