Maybe we could have a clock up near the top that goes by Pacific time? When I play WoW I find it very handy to have the server's time under my minimap rather than my local time.

Anyone agree?

If they could make a clock that fit VERY well with the sites aesthetic and color scheme it would work. It'd have to be digital. Even then I think it'd look.. tacky?

Honestly, I rarely look at time stamps before posting. So, I don't really think it is a big deal if this was added, but I don't really see a downside to adding that feature.

If you have windows 7 there are many gadgets for clocks. I have one on always.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I don't mean to sound like a hater, but the fact that it's now 2011 and we still can't set the timezone to our own is kind of a joke. Granted its not a major issue as its just simple math, (bigger issue if you're more timezones away) but I've never heard of this being an issue on any other forum or website I have ever seen. I'm hoping this'll be addressed in the next hotness.

All counter-arguments to evolution are based on a gross misunderstanding of the theory.

Keep the date/time, but add how long ago it was posted.

I don't really care for those, I think a slick little digital clock would fit pretty well somewhere at the top of a page.

The Black Chapter

For the amount of time I spend on here, you'd expect me to know the time difference, right?

Not a damn clue, and mostly that is because I don't care what time it is in Bungie-ville.
I'd actually look at the timestamp if it held any purpose for me. Currently its just some nonsense at the bottom of my post I regard in the same light as adverts.

Either make them useful or don't have them.

The site would probably do something like embedding each date as the epoch; the current time according to bungie.net and adding its offset to GMT (which I think is -7 hours, but may differ based on daylight savings), so you'll end up with something like 1319290071 (which is the current epoch at this time). Javascript (your browser) can then take that number and convert it into a date which displays the date according to your system. Example.

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

I see no need of it. It was also be confusing once the post got older than a few weeks old.

Maybe an option to have one or the other for each user.

I think it would be much more useful if the site showed how long ago an event occurred in addition to, or instead of, the timestamp for an event as it exists currently.

I've always found that they [the timestamps] don't carry a lot of meaning for users who live outside of the same time zone that bungie.net is set to. I've also heard that it's difficult (for whatever reason) for the site to cater to people in different time zones because of the offset values, daylight savings, etc... I figured the next best thing would be something that is slightly more meaningful for everyone.

So, instead of:

There's a multitude of other places something like this could be added in as well.

Thoughts?
This idea has great merit, BUT...

- Timestamps (like the current system) are arguably more useful when viewing much older posts.

- Relative time is more simplistic and user-friendly, and definitely gets around the timezone problem you've mentioned. However, as time goes by, thousands of posts will eventually be labeled "1 year ago" "2 years ago" or even "4 months ago" etc. And this can cause confusion for forum members reading over older or long-lived threads.

Perhaps we should give forum members the ability to choose which system they'd prefer to be displayed?

  • 10.22.2011 8:52 PM PDT

Or, everyone can just learn that Bungie time=best time.
