Follow the truth...
Follow the lies...
Nobody wins...
Everything dies...

I was talking with my brother and he mentioned that johson can't be infected by the flood.

1. is this true?

2. if it is, why is that?

From what I know, he had been exposed to too much plasma radiation and for some reason this acted as a flood repellent. Now the question is, why didn't the UNSC take advantage of this property of plasma radiation and create some sort of flood deterrent device with it?

I guess that makes sense, he also said that the reason for his immunity was also making him age/die faster.

is this true?

I'm not sure about that one. I've had a further look into Avery's immunity to the flood and found out that Boren's Syndrome (aka plasma radiation) is actually a hoax made my ONI to hide the fact that it was actually due to the procedures performed on him to make him a Spartan 1.

  • 10.22.2011 1:09 PM PDT

Which also explains why the flood can't infect John either.

Huh ? even now some cancer types can be healed i guess in future that is 500 years from now it would a be a flu sickness that can easly get healed.
Boren's Syndrome

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

Johnson was part of the Spartan-I program that gave him augmentations.

These augmentations scrambled his nervous system really badly.

The flood controls hosts by hijacking their nervous system.

The flood can't hijack Johnson's nervous system because it is so incredibly messed up, the flood can't make a proper connection.

---------------------
To cover up that Johnson was a Spartan-I, ONI made up "Boren's Syndrome". Boren's Syndrome is a fake disease in which radiation scrambles the nervous system. It does not actually exist, and ONI made it up as a cover-up.

We should know better, because we are better.

ORION and the fact that Johnson doesn't give the Flood the chance to try and infect him.

  • 10.22.2011 2:36 PM PDT

1. yes
2. he was a spartan I and was tested on and one of them had a magical side effect that gave him the ability to resist the flood.

If Johnson went through even part of the Spartan-I agumetation then how is he alive? Ethier the operation worked and you were super human or it failed and you got paralyzed or died.

The ORION Project was on a much smaller scale than the Spartan-II Project, they didn't recieve biological augmentations which physically altered them to put them at risk of death or paralysis, more likely it was chemical augmentations similar to the S-IIIs.

Spartan I augmentations were far less drastic, and as a result far less effective in creating super humans.

The program was deemed ineffective and soldiers were put back into the regular chain of command.

The program doesn't have many details nor emphasis about deaths, just a generally ineffective program.

the unsc didnt know... halsey found it out, and i think only told john, and she gave him the choice to tell, but in the end he told him that if he told they would dissect johnson, and one life is not worth taking or something like that.
think its in "evolutions"

Heart of the Midlothian shows us cancer is a non-threat. Basic medical equipment on a UNSC ship will cure you with no problem.

"Boren's Syndrome" was actually a cover-up for something that would later be known as the SPARTAN I Program, which was all part of the ORION stuff that Johnson was involved in when fighting the Insurrectionists before the Human-Covenant war.
Along with the augmentations the soldiers of the SPARTAN I program received, they received several side-effects. These side effects were the reason "Boren's Syndrome" came about. Although there is also a possibility of a real Boren's Syndrom in the Halo Universe, but Johnson could never had it because Boren's Syndrome victims usually died shortly after diagnosis and it is incurable (unlike cancer which can actually be cured in the 26th century.)

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Word has it that yes, Johnson was immune to The Flood. This was either caused by his exposure to Plasma Grenade radiation, or a side affect known as "Boren's Syndrome" that came from Project ORION (Better known as the Spartan I project). Either way yes he is immune. Also, only Johnson and the Chief (Perhaps Cortana too) know this. They didn't tell anyone because Chief cares about Johnson and he knew ONI would kill him and dissect him to find a cure if they knew.

Maybe the UNSC S-I augs were the same as the cure that the old humanity discovered way back in time. lol, they used it prior to the flood and deemed it ineffective, now they are like "W3 nE3D teh CUr3!"

  • 10.23.2011 6:04 PM PDT

Its true. The flood got a taste of him in the 'weapons cache' and spat him back out again.

Officially this is due to him contracting Borens syndrome via radiation poisoning after use a whole crate of covie plasma grenades at once, but it is heavily implied that this is a cover story for him having been in the spartan 1 AKA project ORION program, which left his nervous system out of whack and meant the flood couldnt take him over.
