I know this may sound stupid, but it would sort of fit in with the story line. You know how in the Fall of Reach there are Super Orbital MAC guns? Well, what if the MC and maybe some fellow SPARTANS (if they ever come into the game... doubt it) had to go on a repair mission to fix the MAC guns orbiting the earth. They would be fighting in zero-g against banshees and stuff. Their Longsworth fighter they would be flying up in to repair the guns would've been destroyed by emerging covenant destroyers and be forced to take out various targets in zero-g (knowing newtons first law, they will not slow down until they hit something, that something being the target). These targets would be such things as plasma turrets on the covenant's ships, incoming banshees, maybe even some head to head combat (knowing the grunts breath through respirators, maybe they can fight in a vacuum), but the trick would be that they have a limited time to fight due to the lack of oxygen. Once they complete the mission, and start the guns back up again, there would be this cut-scene where a four huge blasts from the MAC guns tear away at the covenant destroyer's shields and hull and ends in a huge explosion, also damaging other vessels as they enter earth's atmosphere. What do you think?

matt in a bubble:

That isn't a bad idea... Didn't they use that when they were boarding the covenant vessel and later hijacking it? (this was in the books).

I think they did! Is that when they all crashed into the hull?

Anyone ever read the book Ender's Game? Well it'd be just like the battle room, except this would be sooo much cooler. THe trick would be propulsion, and if you had complex enough controls to do wat you what.... But just picture a level in our mind where there is no UP or DOWN.... just SPACE where you could be shooting enemies from all different directions. Talk about strategy! this would be the ultimate strategy level where the truly bright minds would shine... and it would take a very well put together clan to win well....

I never thought of it that way. And yes, I did read Ender's game (favorite book, third to the two Halo books: FoR and FS)

now if you ever read the book endars game there was something similiar to this and i believe it would be kick ass to launch off of floating astroids at the opponent but i believe bungie actually said something about less gravity

i dunno then u'd be flooting and whould be really -blam!- unless you do rockets. i mean some extra hight in jumping whuold be cool like on the moon but not to little gravity. it whould be a cool cheat i think bout oder then that it whould be kida -blam!-...

You wouldn't be floating, have you ever heard of Newton's first law of motion?

Law of Inertia: An object will remain in motion, when in motion, and an object will remain at rest, when at rest, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force (a ship or asteroid of some type).

The only problem I forsee is you need another axis for full three dimensional movement...

Perhaps if you played with the idea a bit....

Say... you had a grapple gun as one of your dual wields. You could fire it at floating debris. Maybe some asteroids (Since it's on a lagrange point), various parts of the station, passing enemy fighters....

You press the jump button to reel in on the line, bringing your closer to your grappled object and press the crouch to give yourself more slack.

That seems a little too easy. Let's say you attempt that, but then a covenant banshee comes in and splits the grapple in two, you are still moving towards the station, but not as fast, that would be when the funs starts.

Whip out your guns, its time to hunt covies...

Are we talking about in Space? or in a closed environment? It would suck to be in space, because then you'd have to take into account the gravitational pull of the objects around you, and if you got too far into space, what would you do? No, this would have to be a boxed or sphered in area (no matter how huge) with all that you describe. The interesting thing would be the grapple hook. If you grab a moving object, it would tug you in one direction. If you let go at the right moment, you could be going in a compltely different direction than before, and also tahn the direction in which that object was moving... just think about it.

What about Ender's Game though... I mean the real thing. Masterchief is the closest i've seem to what i envision in the book. Flash-suits, ones you can freeze, but only die when you are hit in vital locations. Sounds fun to me! But then again i'm talking about a completely (not entirely though) different game. Hey it's an idea though... maybe Bungie or someone else can expand upon that...

Maybe the whole latching onto a Covie ship will be used. Like to get the Homeworld or something.

Yes... you'd definitely need a means to cut your line otherwise if a Seraph bisected your line you'd be rather helpless. Well, we could always cull out another button. A bash would be useless given zero-G physics. We could allocate that button.

if something cut your line you'd just travel in the direction you were going at that speed... that is, if the cutting of the line did not transmit any energy or intertia in a certain direction...

*whups* You're correct. the word "Bisect" was wrong. Let's just say "snagged". If a passing Seraph snagged your line you'd be whisked along in its wake.

Since you'd likely not intended on this... this could be bad. You'd want to cut the line as fast as you could and grapple something else to stop yourself being flung off into the empty void.

I do see a flaw in this idea.
Sound.
Sound does not travel through space, it needs air to travel through, so this would make for a pretty boring level soundwise.
