Doesn't matter if he sells it or not. He's still legally obligated to pay for the lost profit if Microsoft decides to sue.

There's no need to lock this, he needs to understand what he's getting into. If he manages to complete his project, he'll put himself right in the poor house. And probably anyone else who tries to do it with him.

what lost profit? honestly......

Uhh, the profit that MS loses from people who don't buy Vista and H2PC because there's an alternative, free download for H2PC for XP users. Please read all of GJJ's post a little more carefully please.

i find that statement funny because by the time this project is done H2PC and Vista will already be out, and selling.

Which is exactly my point, rather, GameJunkieJim's point, to be more accurate. It will be selling! However, if people who would normally buy the game, instead download it for free for XP, then they don't have to pay MS for the game. This translates directly to lost profit. It's pretty simple, really.

Dude, you're fighting a losing battle against the mods. It's like stealing someone else's homework, you're not stealing it to make money, but it's still very wrong.

Please realize that Vista was the choice of Bungie/Microsoft to make, in order to enhance their gameplay. See, the OS runs the computer, it dictates when the cooling fans turn on and off, runs the CPU and Graphics Card, etc, etc. Now, Windows XP uses outdated methods of handling all of this stuff. Vista, on the other hand, will allow users to run games more smoothly because it will be more efficient at delegating tasks and running the computer. Besides, Vista supports things like dual cores and more advanced Gfx cards more efficiently than XP ever will.

I'm not saying it couldn't be a marketing ploy, but from the looks of things, it seems like a decent idea...

And as for the people who wanted to play but dont have the money for the upgrades...well...what exactly do you expect? If this sort of thing didn't happen, then there would be no driving force for innovation. We'd still all be using Windows 98 or something.

XP is 5 years old after all. Usually Microsoft comes out with a new OS every 2-3 years. It's long overdue for an upgrade of the system.

Zanzibar was one map, and you had to purchase the game to play it.

You're planning on emulating an entire game.

Thats a huge difference.

What? Play a game? FOR FUN???
This concept of fun confuses and infuriates me!

Actually, CE just needs a Halo CD key to run is all. So tecnically, someone could actually play Halo CE without buying Halo. And, seeing as how HPC's campaign mode has been ported over to CE.. M$ loses a few pennys out of the holes of their pockets.
And, how much money has been lost total since P2P networks came online?
Possibly Trillions.
And a couple hundred thousand is like Pennys to Gates.
I want H2PC, but on my family's income, I could never afford to upgrade my PC to Vista, just to buy a $20 game. This actually is a good idea, releasing it to the people who cant afford the ridiculus prices of a new OS.

Choose your words carefully, what you're insinuating is piracy.

Im not advertising it. I just told how M$ is losing money with PC. I don't promote Piracy.
Besides, most of the people who use the computer probably have dl'ed a song without paying for it.

I do believe you are promoting piracy with that last comment. People who steal CD keys are still pirating the game. Alot of people do it, alot of people are wrong.

Hi Junkie,

Actually Zanzibar was one of a series of maps created by the H2CE team, that runs on Halo 2 CE. What I plan to do is also on CE, and will require you to get a legitimate CD key. If I wanted to make a new game, then I would have to find halo's game code, which I can't and will not do (legality first off and secrecy by Bingie and MS). I will be modifying everthing the UI the lobby to make it look like Halo 2 (which H2CE didnt do), but it will still act like Halo CE, and use the same application.

If legal, good luck. And also, it's going to take a very long time to complete. Without copying any game content.

You know I'm serious if I'm posting in bold...

ya ummm unless u hav permission from bungie i wouldnt do it and it would take tremendous space on a computer to house a full game inside of another game. another point is well Y just buy urself a flippin XBOX or 360 and buy Halo 2 which would cost much less than what they would fine u 4 or go 2 jail

hey widowmaker, i respect you and all that, but you need to quit while you're ahead. many of halo 2's features are simply NOT POSSIBLE using halo 1's engine. im not just talking about shiny graphics. im talking simple things like vehicle boost. i know, i know, it's in many ce maps, but it isnt done right.

here's one thing to think about. even if you make your own voice overs, and completely make the game from scratch, isn't the script copyrighted? if so, wouldn't even just using the lines in the game toi make your own voice overs be copyright infringement?

now really, if you ever do make this thing, you'll instantly go bankrupt from lawsuits. microsoft will find a way to sue your ass off.

as for the comment about p2p, the companies do care about the lost profit. they care very much. the only problem is, they can't identify and sue ONE person. there are so many people out there pirating, that they cant get em all.

as for widowmaker, they know exactly who to sue. it doesnt matter if this really is copyright infringement or not, a lawyer will convince a judge it is. thats how the court system works, unfortunately.

If i were you, widowmaker, i would call this off. it is a very dangerous situation, and will probably never get anywhere.

This whole idea sounds absolutely genius. This upcoming school year I'll be taking a course in game design that lasts 3 hours a day at my local technical institute (not ITT. This is more local but equally credited) and thats all while I'm in high school ^_^. ok, 'nough said about me being egotistical, I think that for now I'll help out with voice acting, and later I may be able to help you with the 3D models.

They won't fine, much less jail, him just for making halo 2 all over again on the Halo CE engine, he would have to make it available for download with a pricetag (in otherwords using the halo 2 name and selling the game) in order to do that. what he's doing now is perfectly legit
