The Spectagon

I simply don't have a way to get there or the funds, it's a real shame.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

I'm not a greedy man (well, maybe I am), but for a $250 ticket I'd want more than that. I'm thinking slow roasted shoulder of beef, with all the extras. And Yorkshire pudding. And some sort of dessert. I'm thinking cake. Layer cake.

And while my gastric juices are flowing, I note with approval the champagne and cider, but do think that something is missing; to whit, port.

I should go eat dinner.

I am more bummed about their choice of product. Kids need less iCrap and more books, walks, and interaction with other humans.

I don't question the motive. I am sure they mean to help as best they can. This is just a symptom of society now-a-days. Kids are forced to entertain themselves with electronics and lose out on quite a bit in the process. It is easier for parents and hospital staff alike to pawn off their entertainment, rather than talk or play.

This event is for Stanley Stamm Summer Camp. They give kids with serious illnesses the chance to camp under the shadow of Mt. Rainer. They even supply medical support to make it possible for kids who typically wouldn't be able to get outdoors and spend time with other kids to do so. They are awesome.

The iPads (which can include reading material) are great for kids who can't get out of bed, or might need Facetime with friends and family who might be out of state, or even out of the country.

It's not just Angry Birds and Photo Booth. :)

It's a charity dinner, not date night. Get a clue.

Why not give the money directly to the camp then?

That is very nice to hear. I rescind my previous comment.

Sadly, I live too far away to join in on the festivities. I will donate $100 if you send me some Rainer Beer though. Can't get that in Texas.

I'd imagine the profits of this event will be given to the camp, along with some of Bungie's own money. It basically gets people to donate money while giving them an experience that they will enjoy as well, along with what Bungie is already giving.

I live the entire way across the country, Saegertown PA in fact. At least I'll be able to fund camperships for the people who need them by the end of this weekend( Haunted Hayrides for the Local Scout camp). :)

I'm there in spirit.

Really? I figured they're all on the west coast. The grass is always greener........

Regardless I live at least 45 from any major city.

I meant it in the sense that I wish the whole gaming industry was on the East Coast.

Y u so derp?
Plus a charity dinner is usually quite a nice night. 'light bites' would be something of a let down at $250.
He's right about the Port too.

Every extra dollar they spend trying to get you to be ''charitable'' is one less dollar those kids get.

I really wish I was on the receiving end of that generosity when I was in the hospital as a kid... Even if it was just Angry Birds and Photo Booth.
Will you pretend to be my father so I'll be let inside (of the event)? I won't call you a dirty ginger anymore.

If you have a foundation, its best to ensure that any events your foundation hosts are viewed in a good light. You don't do that by charging $250 and not providing at least a meal. Hell I'd expect a glass of something too.

Certain etiquettes should be followed - feeding your guests is way up there on the 'to do' list.

If you can't make decent profit from a $250 ticket when all you are doing is providing a [probably not very good] meal, urdoinitrong. If you want more profit, raise the prices.
I'm sorry but 'An evening with Bungie' really should be covering at least a few hours, hours in which guests should be served a meal.
