I am more bummed about their choice of product. Kids need less iCrap and more books, walks, and interaction with other humans.

This event is for Stanley Stamm Summer Camp. They give kids with serious illnesses the chance to camp under the shadow of Mt. Rainer. They even supply medical support to make it possible for kids who typically wouldn't be able to get outdoors and spend time with other kids to do so. They are awesome.

The iPads (which can include reading material) are great for kids who can't get out of bed, or might need Facetime with friends and family who might be out of state, or even out of the country.

It's not just Angry Birds and Photo Booth. :)

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

Move it forward a couple of months and i'll already be in America so i might be able to come. I'm not going to fork out nearly $2000 for a plane ticket just for one night. I'm all about bungie and all about the charity, but its just not feasible.

Oh well, yet another event i can't go to.

I've probably said this before and I'll say this again, but you guys are so great for doing this kind of stuff.

I don't question the motive. I am sure they mean to help as best they can. This is just a symptom of society now-a-days. Kids are forced to entertain themselves with electronics and lose out on quite a bit in the process. It is easier for parents and hospital staff alike to pawn off their entertainment, rather than talk or play.

Ah yes, a typical "kids these days" rant.

You can read books on an iPad. Paper books and digital books are the same thing, only one dosen't weigh anything and no dead trees are required. iPads don't prevent anyone from getting excercise. And, of course, they give people constant connection to other humans 24/7.

Did I miss anything?

It was more of an "adults these days" rant, as I was talking about how it is easier to just sit a child down with a video game/movie/iPad than it is to actually spend time with them.

And sure, you can read on an iPad, but most people don't. Sadly, the more access we get to things like that, the less we use it. People read much less than they used to.

Yes. How dare those disabled kids, some of whom are probably in wheelchairs, not get off their asses and walk 3 states away to talk to a friend of theirs. Or go out and play baseball in real life. I mean seriously, how lazy can you get?! (amidoinitrite?)

The above is all sarcasm. Honestly the more you post in this thread the less and leas I like you...

:)

That is very nice to hear. I rescind my previous comment.

You also don't seem to understand how the amount of time that parents spend with their children has waned over the last 20 years nor do you understand how technology has changed how children spend their time.

Obviously, not all of it is bad. Obviously, some children are incapable of doing certain things because of illness or disability. Anything to help those children is great. My wife works with special needs children every single day, and I see how parents and teachers alike push them off to the side or throw an electronic device in front of them so that they don't have to deal with them.

Kids need interaction, and as Urk pointed out that group is about more than just iPads, which is wonderful. The fact that you misinterpret my posts doesn't bother me, but to catch you up I will offer a few research items for you to solidify my argument.

I live across the country. :/

But I would definitely throw down $250 if I could.

It sounds really fun and I am helping someone. :p

We all know you would.

You'd pay $250 just to touch the front door handle.

I don't have that much money but it sounds like a fun event.

I would just have to save up some money.

Too bad I live near South East :/

South East :o?
Which state?

I'm sort of sad you went with the brand usage of "Facetime" over the actual word usage of "facetime" there.

No matter what day they picked, I wouldn't be able to make it. I'm way far east of them. Still kinda cool. If I was local, I just might go.

I wouldn't really care about food either. That's really not the point. Silent auctions, raffles, and Halo games with Bungie employees sound fun to me.
