I think 343 has put more effort into their art work for maps than Bungie has, anyone who has compared what they've done to maps to what Bungie has done, would know this.

I think it's just because 343 is VERY enthusiastic about being handed the Halo story, bring allowed to whatever they want with it now, so they're trying their best to make a fantastic first presentation.

"High noon" remake done by 343.

"Powerhouse" done by Bungie.

What do you think of this? Can you actually see any differences between the map art and textures or is it just me?

I wish I was wrong but I am afraid I'm going to have to say that I like Certain Affinity's work better (On Reach's maps). Sorry Bungie!

The artwork is clearly better done. 343i is made up completely of Halo fans. When they signed up to work at 343i they signed up for one thing - to make Halo games. When you get a group of people together that devoted to what they do you're going to get something magical.

So what? Bungie is not a single person, it's a massive conglomeration of different artists, designers etc so your point is null.

They had to balance graphics, worrying about how to draw those graphics, how to work the physics, how to... derp.

While graphics are important, they were not the sole focus of Bungie. The maps were constantly changing during development, so textures had to be changed constantly as well. With remakes like that, you change one or two things to match the newest game, and you can spend weeks/months on one unchanging map's graphics.

That offers a much higher level of detail.

343i's maps look beautiful so far, but to me whether the map is successful or not just depends on how well it plays. I'd take a map that plays well with lesser graphics over a flashy map that plays horribly. I'm not saying I favor 343i over Bungie, but I just judge maps on gameplay then looks.

With Reach, Bungie was making an entire game. With HCEA campaign, they are doing cutscenes and texture work only. They aren't having to design the entire thing.
