The beta is super awesome. RogueAssassin27 is now the person who got my Totodile's nickname. Hoo-hah! Relevant.inb4lock

I mean, I was here since I was about 11 or so and I never got in any trouble. Why bothering having a rule when you don't enforce it? Moreover why is it even there? The only reason why I can think of is John Cena.

The No Tweens Allowed rule, obviously.

There's an age limit on the internet?

Under "Eligibility". Now I notice that it not only applies to forum usage but the whole site!

It says "please do not use".

So are they kind of enforcing that rule? There can only really be black and white with rules.

There isn't really any way for them to check your age.

  • 10.25.2011 8:08 PM PDT

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

I think children under the age of 13 have some kind of special legal protection, so a lot of sites of US-based companies have that as part of the terms.

This, maybe.

I agree. I'm sure it has something to do with legalities, and I'd speculatively agree with RT here. Not sure, obviously, but it's a pretty good guess IMO.

That's interesting.

I wish I had known about this earlier.

Now wait, under Sec. 1303, subsection (b)(1)(A)(i-ii), it's said (i)it is required for an operator to provide notice on the website of how personal info is being used;(ii)to obtain verifiable parental consent for collection of personal info from children.

I'm not sure about the first one, but I never saw anything from the second one. But this law is pretty useless considering operators of websites cannot verify whether or not users are of legal age and is under regulations of these laws.

I thought it might of been one of those funny legal issues.

We need a madness to the method!

I wouldn't want any > 13 year-olds on this website anyways.

This, not Bungie's rules. I've been on forums that have been shut down because they didn't comply with COPPA.

Well damn, it looks like the whole Bungie team, HFCS, and a good 75% of the population is gone.

Also, what's wrong with people under 13 anyways? You know as they say, age =/= maturity. When I was here, people didn't even have any thoughts that I was 11 or 12. Only maybe the Ninjas when they realized I never looked carefully enough at the rules when I got banned, but that's it.

Most people correlate them with trolls, bad writing skills and a general lack of useful information.

If by law Bungie cannot collect personal info, which by the definition listed in Sec. 1302(8) includes an e-mail, shouldn't Bungie ban/delete any user who state with confirmation that they are under 13 in order to avoid any legal troubles?

It should at least be part of the rules to make sure anyone under 13 should not say so they are so Bungie can say they are not liable to legal violations.

NO GROUP INVITES

It is there for liability. Bungie could not possible monitor or enforce that policy, they simply do not have the manpower, nor do they honestly care about something that trivial.

Besides, think realistically, how many people would be discouraged by an agreement with a condition that they have to be 13, who wouldnt lie?

So it comes down to whether or not people agree to the law, I see.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Seeing as anyone can lie about themselves on the internet, I could say that I'm a 1,000,000 year old hermit with five tentacles, thirty eyes and a belly button that can shoot out rainbows made from tears of bearded dragons and someone could believe it. (Lol.)

Fact of the matter is, no one can guess someone's age online. The internet provides the person with an "anonymous" status. No one can really guess a person's age on Bnet, Xbox Live, etc. A 5 year old can sign up and say they're 13 easily.

What I'm wondering is why the website shouldn't be 16+ only or something. Bnet was a gaming website for a game that was rated M, or 17+ only. (I still think parents shouldn't expose their kids 10 and under to rated M games or anything related to Rated M games. Making the parent buy it for their 10 year old child defeats the purpose of the ESRB and the rating system to me to be honest.)
