We all know that the Skirmishers and Jackals in Halo Reach are different subspecies from each other, but what about this guy?

That's the Halo 2 model for the Jackals or the CE model, can't remember.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

Those are still jackals.

Time for a Close-up!

Assuming that they aren't just graphical, aesthetic, non-canonical differences (which is the likely choice), they might not be members of a different species or even subspecies. There's not a whole lot of difference between the Kig-Yar of Halo 2 and the ones in Halo 3/Reach. There's a bit of physiological difference between the so-called human "races", but there is nowhere near enough genetic difference between a black man and a white man to constitute "race" or "subspecies". This may be the case with the different Kig-Yar.

Skirmishers, however, may be a different story, simply because they are identified as different by Bungie.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

That's the Halo 2 model of Jackals I think. There's also separate models for male and female.

That's the Halo 2 Jackal mate.

Males have spikes on their heads. Females do not.

Silence fills the empty grave, now that I have gone
But my mind is not at rest, for questions linger on

Yep, thatäs a high-res render of the Halo 2 Jackal.

I always thought that's what they normally look like.

Just thought I should mention that I knew that that is the Jackal from Halo 2. I found it on Google by searching "Halo 2 Jackal". I just wanted to know whether they were a different subspecies of Kig-Yar, or atleast are they meant to look different to the newer ones, or was it just a graphical and non-canonical change?

Yeah, and they also have giant warts on their backs which the males bite onto while mating. Seeing as I've never scene bald hunchback Jackals, I don't think there are any female ones in any of the games.
