Subject: Halo 2 Key issues...

Hi there everyone,

A while ago I posted on this forum I was having trouble with installing and playing Halo 2 Vista on my Dell XPS (Which has now been returned due to other issues). Now at first I was under the assumption that it was windows 7 stopping me from playing it so I tried many work-arounds and un-installing and re-installing the game. Turned out to be an optimus card issue.

I picked up a new laptop yesterday and have installed Halo 2 Vista only to find i've run into trouble regarding the key. It says I have used the key too many times and that its no longer valid.

So all that un-installing and re-installing trying to get it to work on the old computer has cheated me out of playing it properly this time around...

So my questions are: Does this mean I have to purchase another key/copy of the game? Or can I contact GFWL (Or who-ever is in charge of these issues) to try and resolve this problem.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Yep. Key has a 5-time max before you have to go out and buy the game again. Enjoy.

Goddamn it!

This game is so hard to chase down in my area... fingers crossed my local Eb games has one left.

So even though the software is crap from a technical standpoint and bears a ridiculous key limit, you're actually going to buy a second copy of that garbage?

Of course. I would. I enjoy playing competitive and skilled games such as H2V, and I would hate to miss a tournament.

Halo 2 is by far the world wide leader in graphics, gameplay, and overall enjoyability. If mine broke, and my wife was having a baby, I'd toss her out the window, jump in the car, and speed over to the nearest game store.

Halo 2 brings console players comfortably to the PC with things like perfect support for an Xbox 360 controller, controller aim assist, and amazing 16 player gameplay on a variety of built in or amazingly fun custom multiplayer maps. If all the consoles in the world were to suddenly melt, then Halo 2 would welcome player with open arms.

Halo 2 also includes:

- a revolutionary map editor
- two brand new never before seen maps
- great team and free for all gameplay
- AMAZING graphics that will NEVER cause you framrate to drop

Buy Halo 2 today!

Call up MS support. If you're lucky, they'll generate a new key for you free of charge. Make sure you have the game manual, original key and disc handy.

Err, don't think they could do that....they had nothing to do with Halo 2 Vista, and plus Microsoft owns Halo xD

Anyway, was the key limit to 5 times done at a later date? I've definitely installed my copy of Halo 2 Vista more than five times over the past 4 years.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Nobody knows. It could have a grace time period. It could be sensitive to hardware changes. What everybody does know is it sucks and only punishes honest customers. Crackers have all these failsafes circumvented in no time.

Phone up the contact number and if you're lucky the guy will give you a code to allow you to use the key one more time.

Well I've reinstalled it many times across the three computers it's been on, although there was a time where it wasn't installed.

Nonetheless it is stupid how you can't use it more than a certain amount of time, as you said the hackers always find a way around DRM and all that. I mean, look at Spore xD

It's a 10-key limit. If you're really having trouble, copy the registry files (not telling) and the token.bin (again, not telling) onto your new computer.

Oh, and your PCID.

But idk if you have access to your old computer, soooooo...

edit: tried this, doesn't work :(

You can install the game with ONE key on FIVE DIFFERENT COMPUTERS it DOES NOT MEAN FIVE TIMES ON THE SAME ONE

It is 5 times on the same one. Trust me, we all know what it means here. We've been dealing with people like you that have questions about this stuff. You're the one asking questions in other threads to us... What makes you think you know something we don't?

  • 01.02.2012 5:46 PM PDT

you can just find other keys, use other keys etc, just call M$ (PRAY TO GOD YOU DONT GET HUNG UP ON) and see if you can get the limit lifted and you are an honest person and that it is being and has been installed only on one system and that you would like to see if you can get the limit lifted or get a new key. Then also tell them, it's impossible to find a copy around and then mention. Microsoft doesn't even sell the game on their site anymore... and would like to get the limit lifted or a new key.
