*sigh* You know, I seriously thought I'd see a better reaction to the book. Perhaps if you paid attention to the foreshadowing, everything would be clearer:

Parangosky does. Not. Give. Two. -blam!-s. About. The. UNSC. We have known for years that she is one spiteful -blam!-, and anyone who crosses her ends up dead. She's the perfect secret keeper. She's feared, cold hearted, in power and old . All she cared about in her incredibly advanced age was the destruction of Halsey.

Parangosky is about to die anyway, she doesn't care. In her mind, all that mattered was that Halsey's life be ruined. And the most devestating thing that could ruin her life was the public revelation of the Spartan program, all of her guilt crashing down on her in one, galaxy-wide swoop. Parangosky is a villain, an evil, cruel, selfish, villain with no moral concerns or boundries whatsoever. She has be such a person in order to run the single most devious organization in known space.

Honestly, I don't get it. Why am I the only person I know of that this doesn't come as a surprise too?

never knew we had anything more than 3 sentences about Parangosky in anything non glasslands. Can you tell me where i can read all about her?

So you are defending the fact that she is setting up halsey to be this "monster" that is taking the blame that should be hers? While at the same time creating more spartans yet having them "consent".

Your seriously twisted if you are saying that is ok and you see no problem with it or why anybody would be mad about it. We are mad because you would have to be stupid to think that halesy did this all by herself. Which is why it is impossable for her to be the sole blame.

This is like only convicting hitler for the torture or jews and other non aryan races. What about the "n@zis" that got pleasure from torturing people? your going to let them go but only convict hitler and those that followed orders in which they would have been killed otherwise?

Halsey shouldn't be in any trouble whatsoever. it is ONI and the higher ups that started this.

Then how in the world did she get to be head of ONI? Isn't a bad idea to have someone who doesn't care about the UNSC to be in a position that would allow them to crush the UNSC? Is it hard to make that connection?

No, she does not. She could be smart, caring, selfless, and still run the organization. At the very least she could be in the gray area in-between. For example, Altair from Assassin's Creed. Is he cruel, evil, and selfish? No. Rash maybe, but not evil. And he still managed to keep the Assassins in a fighting state.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

So I take it Halsey made it off Onyx? That alone might make Glasslands worth a read.

It's pretty disappointing how it's done though.

SPOILERS

So basically, Lucy finds some Engineers inside the Dyson Sphere and they manage to magically bring the Sphere out of the slipspace bubble.

There are so many things wrong with this book, it's not even funny.

The whole sphere comes out? Sheesh.

Also, didn't MaxRealFlugal have that in one of his post Halo 3 fics? I can swear I remember reading about something like that before. Not saying anyone has copied anything, but it just means that I have read waaay too many fanfics over the years. :P

Bring the whole sphere out would have massive problems. Opening a slipspace portal the size of a solar system (or even just dropping the sphere out) will likely blast all sorts of debris everywhere. You can't go around making system sized objects drop out of nowhere.

If a single Halo could slow traffic throughout the galaxy, a Shield World should overload slipspace completely.

Pretty much. The Dyson Sphere is described as being several times the size of Earth, slipspace should be torn apart as a result...

Just for info...

It's a micro-dyson sphere, hence it's only 15cm in length, which is why it took a longass time for the Goragon find the damn thing in space.

Secondly, it's the Forerunners, they were planning a galaxy wide network of these things. Slipspace wasn't exactly a problem for them.

What mattered was what they were doing to slipspace. Think about it, large objects in slipspace supposedly screw it up somehow, the Forerunners have been sending Halo Rings, Shield WOrlds, Fortress-class vessels etc through it. Slipspace is buggered, and having the Dyson SPhere break through the slipspace barrier when it's internally many times the size of Earth... well, it's not looking good.

Is it possible that Parangosky is senile? She is over 90 years old after all. Also since we all now that she is still the most fear person in ONI no one would have the guts to challenge her and her decisions. Actually that would make for an interesting plot twist; an old women in charge of one the most dangerous organizations humanity has who is so feared that no one has notice her slip into insanity.

ajw, if you'll so kindly come over to the other thread that you must have gotten this information from (because it surely wasn't the book) you'll learn the OP of that thread trolled the -blam!- out of the universe forum. I just finished the book; virtually nothing he said was true.

I believe the halo waypoint forums may be a better place to go. for halo details. i would have defended the book but am too lazy to create an argument. Did that for the whole day. And just came back from university, started at 8am and ended 8pm.

You did not do the research. Ajw made this thread at 10:53 am. Salty made his thread at 12 am, almost an hour later. Unless Ajw really is the Doctor he did not get his info from Salty.

Might be boasting, but AJW actually got the idea from me If I think correctly.

I read about the Spartans gaining family info, then posted a rough idea of how it'd backfire against ONI if used a certain way. Later, AJW posts this topic.

He can clear it up though.

Also, I don't see why she would do this. Because A: The spartans wouldn't remember their family possibly, or wouldn't be comfortable going back. B: Family wouldn't accept them most likely. and C: They wouldn't feel like they owe her anything.

Hell, I was stunned when the one guy read the files, and hated Halsey but was A-okay with ONI afterwards.

I think Traviss should have been kept far away from Halo....

Damn then, my bad (I was kind of heated up at the moment too, what with all the bogus info getting tossed around (and I hate bs info more then anything), but still). Ajw seems unlikely, at least imo, to be the kind of person to through around totally false info for the sake of trolling.

Where did you get that info then, ajw? Becauase again, you definitely didn't get it from the book.

Well that at least proves there's still some sanity here. I admit I needed to do my research a bit better though, but I guess that's what happens when you feel you've been lied too... >.>

Anyway, I believe Parangosky allowed the Spartans to read the files (and again, only if they wanted too, she didn't make them read it) because Naomi had seen Halsey's journal and therefore knew enough to get her to wonder but not enough for it to be a closed book in her case (and therefore was allowed to read her file by Osman). Trying to be fair to the other Spartans possibly; at least now they have options.

But they won't turn on ONI, they have to much invested on ONI and the UNSC--as in their lives--to even think about it. Parangosky would have made doubly sure that the Spartans' psyche was ready to know about their families before making the move.
