This is the true ethical question of Halo. Are the Spartans practical as well as moral?
I'm sure we can all answer the former with a smart "yes." As for the ethical issue, I personally disapprove of Halo Spartans as well as the oligarchy of historical spartan society in terms of morality.
Back in the day of ancient Greece and Persia, there was a new kind of government being developed. This was Sparta. In the basic most sense, it was an entirely military society with no free rights and impeccable discipline. This, Bungie attempted to emulate with the Master Chief.
The problem is our contemporary standards we set for human beings. Even in a dictatorial state, humans have some sense of basic rights and a moral bearing. What made Sparta great as well as frail was this comradeship and imperialistic mannerism. Sure the were the mest difficult to provoke, which shows they had superior attributes such as self-discipline, but they had no spiritual fruits.
Life was plain and orderly. They were literally insane, as they could not respond to a change of their style.
Thus, I would despise of my child if they were a genetically altered thing. We would never get along, as his or her mind would be closed to the spiritual embodiment I so dearly hold on to. Because of this conflict, I have no doubt that his duty would likely end up having to nullify me if he were to spend such time again with me. If I found him dead on the other hand, I would then be ashamed still, and hope he has some sense of purpose naturally gifted within him in the next life, whatever that may be.
NOTE:
I am straining to refrain from the utilization of religious, political, or provoking tongue. If you feel you have been irked by my words, PM me. I will endeavor to fix this misunderstanding.
