*sigh*

Doctor, I've got this problem you see. I'm trying to create some named hyperlinks in a group of mine, but something rather strange is happening. I have a total of five links, and of those five, three work fine, but the last two links aren't working. What happens is everything I try to click the named hyperlink, it brings up a "Server Not Found" error. This is happening, because for some reason every time I click the link Bungie.net (at least I assume it's Bnet), it's stripping the colon ( : ) from my url. So instead of looking like http://www. it looks like http//www.

Picture!

And if you look at my urls (pic), you'll see that there's nothing wrong with my URL or the text formatting, unless of course I'm incredibly stupid or blind.

Now, when I tried to just normally hyperlink ([url] [/url]), it worked fine, this error is only happening when I use a named hyperlink ([url= [/url], and it happens regardless of whether or not I use a full URL or a tiny url. I'm using the latest version of FireFox with no plugins or scripts.

So am I stupid, or is Bnet just being mean?

Invisible characters?
None, I've checked a few times. I literally can not see any reason for this.

My guess is that it's a tiny url issue. Have you tried using the bungie urls in their entirety?

Yes, that's how I initially was linking them. Then I switched them to TinyUrls to see if that would solve the issue. It didn't. Both Bnet and TinyUrls give me the same error.

And the link is doing other weird things too. Like if you copy and paste it, it will insert and extra http://www., along with the broken http//www. I swear it's cursed.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

It's because Bungie.net didn't appreciate that cheap date last friday.

Thats kind of suspicious... Have you ran a virus scan resently? Check the source of the preview page to see if the urls are properly formatted.[Right click->View Source, 'Find' on a majority of the url string] If they are not then it is most likely a server issue. But my second guess is that the issue is local to your system.

One of a few things I can think of:

1) The BBCode for [b][u]OVERVIEW[/b][/u] is malformed, so the resulting HTML is malformed as well, and may be interfering with the hyperlinks, although this is very unlikely.

2) Your browser is inserting characters either by itself, which is for some reason causing it to fail. Double check that you don't have any extensions enabled which may be interfering.

Try typing out the links by themselves in a post, or the link(s) which are problematic and see if they still don't work.

Post the exact text you're having problems with in here as well.

Hey, I worked hard to scavenge that steak dinner. I promised them a five star meal, and they got just that! So what if the decor in the alley was a little sub par. The food was still luke warm and tender. >=/

It's not a virus or anything local. I have friends toying the with the links as well and they're getting the same error. Plus I scanned my computer not too long ago. And I see nothing wrong when I view the url format.

1) That's never caused me any error before and changing it doesn't do anyhting.

2) I have nothing installed on FireFox that could do something like that, the only thing I have is a skin.

Typing it out didn't do anything different.

3) The second picture above has the exact text I'm trying to work with. If you want something even more specific I don't quite understand what you want then. Apologies, I'm a bit fried right now from studying.

I am...whimsical today.

Why does the penultimate '[/url]' not have the squiggly red line, indicating a spelling mistake?

I think dazarobbo was asking for you to post the the text, as a post in this thread, so we could play.

Does anyone even read these?

Does this work? I'm not in your group so I dunno.

Links of Interest

It seems to link me correctly but doesn't even have http in it when I visit the link so I don't have the error.

I noticed that too, and so did my friend, and it turns out that's the only URL not working now. Some connection maybe/ The text is

~ Recruitment

The full link should be www.bungie.net/fanclub/416970/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=647683 98 which does work when I enter it. FYI It's a link to a specific forum post like the other links, not a thread. It shouldn't make a difference, but I guess it might...

Yes that link works. And regarding the lack of http:// I think I might have an idea. To make a hyper link you need the http:// otherwise Bnet wont link it, but when you click the link, the http:// vanishes, for all my links (some new FF feature maybe?). I've got this idea in my head, but I can't write it out. Any one got any idea for a connection between the two?

Have you tried switching the [/b][/u] to [/u][/b] ?
Shouldn't really make a difference...

Otherwise, it could be worth a shot using a bungie.net URL, but removing the "http://www.bungie.net" and keeping the "/fanclub/[insertGroupNumberHere]/Forums/posts.aspx?post ID=[insertPostNumberHere]"

Switching the [/b][/u] around didn't change anything. But, I have not tried linking like that, I didn't know that would work, interesting. One second...

EDIT: Thank you, that seemed to fix the issue. Still curious as to why it happened in the first place though. :/
