I agree with all of these folks.

I don't know why I found this so funny..

Yeah, but what can you do eh?

Loose talk is noose talk.

I actually miss the days where people could construct massive quote pyramids. So, no. Keep the system the way it is.

I never said it mattered

All the relevant conversation already happened. This thread should of died already.

Read my post.

I didn't direct the second part of my post to you.

Learn to quote properly.

Edit: Because I'm guessing you're going to take this post seriously, just chill a bit I'm only messing around. :P

The beta is super awesome. RogueAssassin27 is now the person who got my Totodile's nickname. Hoo-hah! Relevant.inb4lock

I have to say, the irony in this thread is amusing.

OT: OP, I think you're the only one who has problems with the quoting system.

Which is why the topic usually has a extensive history of who posted what and when already...

In real life conversations don't sound like...

For a good reason.

...Most of the time one post is not enough to sum up an entire conversation...

Are you suggesting that all quotes are pointless? Even the first "example" of a quote in real life didn't make sense, so it appears that you are. Posting in a forum is quite different from real life. Conversations here are not direct, and there can be other people's posts between a post and it's reply.

As has been said previously in this thread, quotes can help give a context for your post, as it clarifies what exactly you are replying to. In some cases (as in this current post) it is useful to have more than one quote, to make it clear what exactly the context of the post is. Quote pyramids can, on occasion, be annoying, but I rarely see them get out of hand, so I do not see a need for change.

Being able quote the last post would be useful, but it wouldn't help much. Most of the time, you can shorten the post again, to respond to a specific section, so it wouldn't save a great deal of time. I'd much rather time be spent on other improvements/additions to B.net.
Oh yes quite.

I completely agree!

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Agreed!

I've been noticing the large amount of space posts take up by quoting a whole quote storm of debate. That got me wondering: what could be done to lower the quote spam?

What do you think about setting a limit of only being able to quote a quote?

(You can still quote multiple times within your post. You just can't quote a quoted quote.)

I think any type of quoting is unnecessary. Whoever does so should be banned.

  • 10.29.2011 4:52 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I guess lowering the quote limit per post is a solution. I don't think it's been too bad since the infamous Quote Pyramid in the fabled Optimatch forum though.

  • 10.29.2011 8:46 PM PDT

We believe that the universe is unbounded: this is not the same as infinite: the 2-D surface of a sphere, wrapped around a 3rd dimension, has a finite size, but has no end. If you start off in a given direction on the surface of a sphere, you could return to your start point without having to turn around -- you simply go all the way around. But wouldn't that mean the universe has an escape velocity like the earth?

Unfortunately it's impossible. The Optimatch forum no longer exists and as such the thread ceases to exist.

When I grow up I want to be bitter and spiteful.

"i liked the reality where everything was on fire better"
-legato on remedial chaos theory

I would support such changes to the quote system if the reply feature were removed.

I see your point. But now you only have to read the last post. From now on, I propose everyone must quote everything posted immediately above them...
