I rule the midnight air, the destroyer, die by my hand, I am Creeping Death.

Might be a stupid question, however, are the Flood able to infect and possess machinery? I mean obviously they can because of the whole Mendicent Bias thing but how? 343 GS and other Monitors do not have an "intact nervous system", and are also not sentient (or they would have been killed with the Halos). Just like to clear this up?

don't say wrong thread, please try and actually be helpful

this is an appropriate thread :P

The Gravemind was able to convince Mendicant Bias into joining his side. He can't infect him, just persuade him.

I thought so, however MB could have still resisted, along with 343 GS

Unless they were programmed with free will and emotions?

The flood can infect structures and machines, look at high charity. The Gravemind said it himself that he has absorbed many AIs while talking to cortana in human weakness.

And medicant joined the flood by choice FYI. he states this

I thought high charity was merely taken over, not LITERALLY infected. and how can the GM absorb AIs?

It was taken over; because he is a biological computer.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

1) Flood cannot infect machinery. The victim must be living. However, it can take over and operate machinery for its own use.

2) Mendicant Bias was forced to talk with Gravemind for 43 years. Gravemind persuaded him to turn against his creators, and Mendicant Bias went rampant. This suggests that Bias possessed some kind of free will. No solid proof, though.

3) Many years later, Bias repented his actions when interrogated by the covenant, stating that he was wrong in his actions and that he would bring "Reclaimers" AKA Humans to the Ark. Upon learning that Humans were actually the Reclaimers, the prophets declared war on humanity.

I am...whimsical today.

Engineers are organic constructs that seem to be able to interact on a more fundemental level with technology than any other organic species.
If the Engineers have this ability, is it such a leap to imagine GM has as well? If only by infecting an Engineer (though something in the back of my mind is suggesting that they're immune. This could be from an old theory though...)

hold up.

1. Infecting machines and organics is completely different. the flood infect machines by hacking them and growing biomass over the structure until nothing is left but biomass. We have seen infected forerunner, human and covenant ones.
Again; the gravemind clearly stated that he has infected thousands of AIs in human weakness.

2. Medicant bias was on a mission to test out the halo array while doing so he came in contact with the prisoner "gravemind" and willingly talked to him for 42 years. Bias saw the graveminds point of view over the forerunners and pick the flood over them. both the gravemind and MB state this was his choice.

Bias was in a class of the highest AIs, though nearly any forerunner AI could have switched sides willingly.

I'm not sure if you are arguing or agreeing.

1. We agree that flood cannot "infect" machinery, but it can operate for its own use.
2. We agree that gravemind persuaded Mendicant Bias to turn on the forerunners.

Yes they do infect machinery it just isn't the same as infecting lifeforms. which is why i used the word hacking, if they couldn't infect machines then high charity wouldn't be a trillion ton biomass.

It isn't that he persuaded him but Bias personally thought his side was better. it wasn't a mind game, bias picked the logic of the mind over the forerunners
