Subject: Why does Reach have Bloom?

Hi.

Bloom

Attempts to:
-Force players to shoot at a certain 'cadence' that corresponds directly to their range. More commonly known as "pacing."
Succeeds:
-Sometimes; inconsistently

Recoil

Attempts to:
-Force players to shoot at a certain 'cadence' that corresponds directly to their range. More commonly known as "pacing."
Succeeds:
-Always; it is impossible to exploit recoil.

Any ideas as to why the atrocity was put into Reach as opposed to consistent recoil? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for letting individual skill flourish as much as it possibly can, but if you're going to limit the player, do it right.

Are we talking recoil as in your gun physical points at a different direction after each or subsequent shots or are we talking barrel climb?

SMG recoil, whichever that is (I'm assuming "barrel climb"), except now on precision weapons.

Reach is a pretty fun game. A lot of people who couldn't adapt just complained. It was a strategic gameplay element.

Random switch from present-tense to past-tense?

Anyway, it isn't strategic as it's inconsistent. You cannot adapt to randomness.

Only at the ranges it allows for; the more intense it is, the less further the range that it will work at. Once a sweet spot is found on the intensity spectrum, I can't see any problems whatsoever. It offers all of the pros of bloom and none of the negatives (besides limiting individual skill in some regards).

I'd also like to point out that weapons like the Sniper and Carbine had recoil, which forced you to readjust your shot, lest you miss the subsequent one if it's aimed at the same target.

By comparison, Reach's sniper has negligible recoil--if any.

If the target is moving, it is optimal to simply aim for the head each time just to be sure, especially with shot-bleedthrough.

In theory, you'd be right, but only if said target isn't strafing well nor jump/crouch-strafing.
