Please don't take this as just another "Oh my gosh! I just love this community SOOOO much!!!" thread. I just wanted to shed some light on a realization I've recently come upon.
Since the hand-off of Reach the Community has pretty much been living off of the skin and bones of the once fruitful body of the cow that was news coming out of Bungie about its goings on and game production/management process. One might argue that we DID get the release of Crimson since then, but honestly, that has hardly made a dent (let alone a crater) of interest on the face of the moon that is this Community. [I'm going to stop using metaphors in every sentence now.]
Since that time, I've seen several, very noteworthy threads that have stimulated lots of awesome and exhilarating conversation between the forumgoers who participate. From ninja threads (the most popular in said timespan [I think] being MURDUR's "Who would make a good mod" thread*), to threads about the community in general and its current state, to Commander GX's weekly reviews, to many other ones too numerous to mention.
And sure, one could make that argument that threads become cyclical (most of these usually getting one or two "Is it that time of the month?" responses). But, I find that even in cyclical thread topics (ninjas, the rules, the state of the flood, "ban all threads about ____", "Bungie, y u no politics/religion?!", etc.), each one still has its own merit (most of the time). They bring that one extra element that the one the week before didn't have. They bring up the one point that the other thread didn't bring up which changes the conversation enough that I don't feel like I'm pulling out token responses from a hat.
The simple fact that the Community has been able to sustain itself (though, admittedly, seems to be showing definite signs of malnourishment at times) without any legitimate news or substance coming out of Bungie LLC besides Urks weekly, one day posting spree in the Septagon and Acky's occasional pop in to say "hi" and either tell someone all 98 ways how they're wrong or tell us that the web team is too busy to work on something. This is just, to be frankly unsophisticated for a brief moment, really -blam!-ing cool to me.
Anyone else think this? If not, what's your opinion on how the Community's been doing since the "Blackout"?
As always, thanks for reading and responding.
