Yay! I decided to upgrade my computer and I got a GeForce 6600 at CompUSA.

I don't need you to help with installing it, I can find it out myself. The only problem is I don't know if my computer uses AGP or PCI, because although I have a feeling that my computer uses AGP, I'm not sure, but the card uses AGP x8.

Is there anyway to tell without opening up my computer? (It's got a see-through case, so if it says "AGP" or "PCI" right there just tell me.) I don't want to open up my GeForce 6600 yet until I find out if it's AGP or not, because then I can get a refund and buy a GeForce 6600 for PCI instead.

I got nothing. I guess you'll have to open it up, unless someone else has better advice...

there are certain colors to the slots, I can't remember. But you can search the motherboard you have maybe and see what type it uses.

All right. Hey I think I see something brown through my computer's see-through case. No wait, that's just a coffee stain. LOL, just joking.

Can AGP also be orange? Because my GeForce 5500 is currently in an orange slot, not a brown one.

AGP is brown Kim, and PCIe can be be anything from white to yellow, but regular PCI slots are white.

you cant be 100% dependent on the colors. My pci slots are yellow, and my agp slot is blue (asus k8v se deluxe mobo), but in most cases its true.

how many orange slots are there? if it's sitting in the only orange slot, then it's AGP. but if it's in one of many of the same orange slots than it's PCI.

There is one orange slot.

So I have AGP? Cool.

By the way, how good is the GeForce 6600 anyways?

Hello Master Kim,

What company makes your 6600? Is it overclocked? In general a 6600 is not a bad card. Just a little food for thought though. If you plan ongetting a card in the near future shop tiger direct. you would be amazed how much you would save. I have a 6800 gt OC that I am replacing with a 7900 BFG PCI Express. Can't wait!!!!!

The 6600 is on the lower side of the midrange cards. Its alright, but the 6600GT is alot better.

there is a difference in the 6600 GT and the 6600. but what it comes down to is res. you will notice a difference in the 6600 and the 5500 though. I used to have a BFG 5500 and it was not bad but WOW what a difference in the 6000 series.

Cool, then. Thanks for the information. It is not overclocked. I got mine at CompUSA and it supposedly cost around $179.99 originally, but I got a discount thingy-ma-bobber and paid $136.49 (taxed price) instead! So I saved around $50.00.

I can't wait till the day I get a beefy card like the 7900. By the way, could my Intel Pentium 4 with 3.20 GHz be able enough for a 7900?

Now, I just need absolute confirmation that I have an orange, AGP slot.

Acually Kim you have more than enough . When it comes to gaming you need at least a 2.0 ghz pross. to run games well. the one thing you will need will be a motherboard with a pci express slot . A x16 perferably because the higher the number on that the better the quality of graphics. You got a pretty good deal on your card. you can even try to overclock it a bit to make it run faster . But make sure you do not overheat it or it will be mush!! Is it a BFG?

No, it isn't BFG.

It says "PNY Technologies" in the top left corner on the front face of the box. Underneath that is "Verto".

So do you think I should wait until I get PCI Express and then buy a PCI Express card?

Whats up Master Kim,

Pny is a very good company and I would gladley take that next to a BFG . You should hsve software with your card that gives you alot of features. Pci is the wave of the future and considering it would be a great idea. The best thing to do is to go to tigerdirect and in the search engine type bundles. It will give you great deals on boards and cpu combos! you would be suprised on what you could buy for under $300.00 .

Best thing to do is just open up the case. If you can see your pci slots, there should be one at the top that is a little more to the right than the other slots. Sometimes under the agp or PCI-E slot there should be the letters PCI-E or AGP.

I want to be absolutely sure, however, before I open up my case.
