I treat everyone as if they have the potential to be one of my friends playing on an alt. I give the benefit of the doubt, forgive betrayals, say "good game" if my mike is plugged in, and generally conduct myself in a respectful manner. Despite the fact that I'm somewhat anonymous and would face no repercussions 99% of the time if I chose to act otherwise.
Edit: I even keep my teabagging as tasteful as possible - generally only after a triple+ kill and at the end of a game where I have 20+ points.
I play Halo for a challenge, when the MM system feels up to giving me one. When it pukes out anything less, I end it as quickly as possible and try again. I'm here for some solid gameplay - not stomping on new kids and their guests.
I wish more people felt this way. It's a game, which means it should be fun for everyone, even people who aren't very good, don't have friends they can play with, or get screwed because some of their teammates quit.
I will always remember a game of Team Rockets I played in Halo 3 once where it was just me against four people. I lost, of course, but they were obviously taking it easy on me and even let me have the lead for part of the game. They still won, but I got to have a lot of fun, which wouldn't have been the case had they spent the entire game killing me.
We need more people like that.
