Subject: Booting in Competitive?

It's more likely than you might think.

Are we allowed to single people out? These guys were particularly egregious.

IP Flooding. They had FeAr in their names because they were cool or something.

They booted their randoms and one of my team-mates.

you can usually tell when multiple people on your team lag out in succession when you are winning, or if someone is doing it all the time (multiple games in a row someone on the opposing team to them someone has a dnf. sometimes it is just lagging out though

Anyone can IP flood. All you need to do is bridge your PC connection to your Xbox and take a look at the ones coming through whatever UDP port Xbox uses. 3074 or something?

Any idiot can do it.

I'll link the game when I get around to it.

Still better than you.

.....most of you, at least.

Link the game OP.

I want to see if this is legit.

It's on my xSmoothmouse tag if you really wanna find it. It was on Powerhouse. Two guys with Fear in their names. It's quite a ways back and I can't be arsed.

This Game? The one that was on the first page of your history? Nice work mate.

Anyway, this looks fine, I don't think they were booting, and if they were, they weren't very good at it. One of them DNF'd after all.

Only one guy on your team left, and the randoms on their team were a guest + his player, which are always liable to quit, especially early.

So yeah, I don't think this is a case of hostbooting.

  • 10.31.2011 1:50 AM PDT

Well that's good.

Not in Reach.

Assume your being sarcastic?

Lets take the booting, and move it into betrayal boot.
(All just 'think aloud' - would never do it ;)

Quick guide.
- Get yourself a hub (not router - look up the difference),
- Plug xbox & notbook into same hub, and set mac/ip the same
(reason for hub not router)
- start wireshark or equiv and load up a slayer session.
- now go find a poor sap to annoy, repeat & rinse until betrayal
- now before you accept boot opion, prepare wideshark to capture that beauty.

Save that prized boot packet ... it is a thing of joy.
Now write yourself a little C# packet transmitter - heres a start;
var socket = new Socket
(Header.DestinationAddress.AddressFamily,
SocketType.Raw, ProtocolType.Udp);
socket.Bind(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, 0));
socket.SetSocketOption(SocketOptionLevel.IP,
SocketOptionName.HeaderIncluded, 1);

Now shoot that boot packet down that hub, broadcast it to all players in current game so that the current game host gets the message ... and pop, watch the player drop.

Fun part is poor ole banhammer is none the wiser ... packets are legit. And no need to flood, just the one packet.

Once you pass this you are now ready to move onto phase jumping, lifetime camo, and super speed to rival COD.
Maybe not 'any idiot', but sure not difficult, and more of a challange/fun than any weekly.

If you lose connection for no explainable reason at a suspicious point in a game, you were probably DDoSed and should check your router's diagnostic logs to be sure.

If you don't lose connection to Xbox Live however are kicked out of the game, it's quite possible you were hostbooted.

Note: Both of the above scenarios happen a lot to people with garbage internet connections who then jump up and down saying 'OMFG DDOSER', so you can't blame hostbooters/cheaters always.
