I was just a lonely Halo fan excited for the Halloween Playlist and wanted to find out more and so I went to this site Bungie advertised on Halo 3 when it was fresh out and I signed up on the spot. The Community sure did help speed up my high school years and I like to thank you all.

EDIT: I guess these threads get locked unless there is some community involvement in it.

I remember the times of Halo 3 when file sharing became something of bragging rights. It showed what was the coolest kills and shinanagans that you might capture that you wish you could in the previous games. This was also around the time that Hoppers were really fun to play like Fiesta and Zombies for Halloween.

On the b.net side of things, I guess when I first joined there were fewer number of Mythic Members than they are now and I remember being welcomed very quickly. This did however change once Halo 3 had been out for a while and this brought a lot of great people to the discussion front as well as internet trolls. Around '08 people were going crazy about Recon armor for Halo 3 which really set the forums ablaze. Remember when there was an Opimatch forum and when the Community was called the Septagon? All of these changes were things I seen the years I have been here.

I remember the time when ODST was getting announced and Reach as well when the forums would be bursting with intriguing speculation and hope that Reach would finally answer all of our prayers and involve the story of the Fall of Reach with Master Chief. I loved ODST and I found it very bizarre how quickly people lost interest in it in the eve of Reach to the point I felt disgusted that people on b.net make the game so negative and not see it as something that was completely fresh and new.

Reach was a time where we could all say goodbye to Halo with Bungie. Many of the Die hard Bungie fans such as myself saw this as an exciting time for something new after discovering the other capabilities that Bungie can do like make great RTS games like Myth and a great shooter like Marathon. This was indeed a year of change since we still don't know of the full story of Destiny. But we can still have hope that Bungie will pull through like everything they done before. Bungie will only stay on top if we let them (bad pun). Remember that we are who paves the path for Bungie to achieve world domination and we are the the first to be excused off the Giant Slingshot aimed toward the sun once they reach that step.

Community, what do you remember about the days of Halo 3 or the past 4 years in b.net history?

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

I believe what he said was that b.net birthday threads would be locked more regularly, not that they'll all be locked. It seems that threads like this one actually discussing how things have shifted and changed during the [x] years someone's been here is acceptable. While on the other hand, one's just saying "Well, I've been here for [x] years, hooray me!" are unacceptable and considered spam.

Though I too thought it was a minium of five years before you got to make these kinds of threads? I suppose I'll start worrying when I start seeing three or even two year birthdays addressing the state of the community.

Old School Gamer and Proud Member of the Seventh Column

You and I joined about the same time and you captured very well some of the milestones of B Net.

The Recon armor craze (I still love, Can I haz Recon??) and the ODST reveal were incredible. The ODST / Superintendent appearance realy solidified my becoming a member of the 7th Column. It was so cool to be a part of a community that was focused on having fun and waiting in aticipation, together. And Bungie's approach to the ODST reveal was nothing short of masterful. I still shake my head thinking about the Green text and website being taken over.

Good stuff OP. Happy birthday and be well.

Ah, very well then. If that's the case I'm glad it had been further clarified then by Foman.

Halo 3 Longshore playable on Team Fortress 2 vids

Four years ago... Was the best time of the Halo 3 Era age, where people would post about teabagging, recon armor, and many memorial items in the Halo 3 forum. Moderators and whatnot would unleash super shenanigans to the community to have fun and be creative with them. Bungie employee would tease or even make a preposterous joke about something in the member's thread that made to the Hall of Hilarity.

But seeing as of today, this place is dying slowly. People still post here often, but not as it was back in four years ago. A lot of member are legendary and mythic, and only a few bungie employees have been posting around here. I'm surprised to see Urk and Achronos trying to keep the forum active as possible. And the moderators, I'm not quite sure how to say, I personally respect and love the new moderators, such as Duardo, Old papa rich, Qbix, and many more, but there was time in the past where there was an conflict between moderators and employees. In the end, one would win, and one would lose, in a horrible punishment.

I wish I could go back in the time and enjoy that experience four years ago.

Haha yea I just thought 4 would be good since those 4 years were getting through high school. Putting a thread on my 5th would seem like I stayed behind for another senior year.
