Subject: Toggling the swear filter

I think it would be better if the filter were to stay.

If someone tends to call someone else something rude, then it would go back and forth in a "who can swear the most while insulting each other" contest. I don't think we need that on the forums.

I say we should keep it clean.

Key

Not to look like a sheep by having the same opinion as Foman, but do you really need to be that blunt that you can't convey emotion without usin the words we aren't allowed to use on here? Does every insult have to have the s-word? Does every exclamation necessitate the f-word? At this point, it isn't about the right to self expression, it's about whether or not you can do so in a mature manner.

And yes, excessive cursing or the feeling of "necessary" cursing IS immature. Its not like it's impossible to wrap your (mostly) adult brains around the reasons Acky and the web team have for censoring most of the main curse words. The censorship doesn't even matter in most situations, anyway. To be honest, there are very few situations where I cannot tell what the censoring represents (what word it's censoring), given the context of the passage in question.

It really comes down to whether or not you have the common sense to be able to respect the webteam's decision and construct your sentences and paragraphs and posts around not using said profanity (in an unfiltered manner). I don't meant sound anti-cursing. I'm not. But if you cant just accept he fact that they've decided to make it illegal by directly editing those words out, then you have some sort of unnatural attachment to curse words.

i'd keep the -blam!- censorship thing just because it's part of bungie culture or tradition. If they changed it would be kinda depressing.

i guess(in answer for the moderators) having the option of having censorship gives users a sense of some kind of control, which i wouldn't mind either. i wouldn't use it though because i like guessing what the -blam!- is censored out sometimes haha.

for the swearing and actually writing words being different, sure they are in a way. usually writing is supposed to be more professional because you can alter words after putting them down and make yourself sound like you actually know what your talking about. most of the users here though type like the talk, and that's how i usually type too. (except now)

"Dude, what are you doing right now?"
"Uhh... Heh, my mom."
"Dude... What?"

They're just words. If people can't handle looking at them, and have to replace our words with -blam!-, so be it.

'sides, idgaf anyways.

(Oops, you read -blam!- when you saw that, huh? </3)

I think everyone knows what the words are when they're blamed anyway. I don't even think there should be filter in private groups, if they're hidden away from the public why not? It's a private group...

This is Bungie. Not a several hundred year old organization.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Allowing users to turn it off so they can post profane things, no. Allowing users to see the censored words, yes.

That was the discussion that I think we were getting at. Obviously, there is no need to see gore or shock sites. Using words that are common place, yes.

I think it'd be a nice feature. I personally don't mind reading profanity.

Whoo.

But then everyone would "swear like a sailor" and it wouldn't be a choice, you'd have to turn off the fliter just to understand what everyone was saying, making the feature redundant.
You might as well just turn off the filter, which would be great although I'm not sure this community is mature enough to handle profanity correctly yet. >.>

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Some words such as "bastard" can bypass the profanity filter. "Bastard" today describes someone who was basically born illegitimately. Back then I can understand that it stood for a two handed sword. But it's still not censored even though the meaning changed.

I can understand Evilcam's point of view though. Now me? I think the ability to use the English language without defaulting to swearing, shows that one is motivated to expand their mind. I don't need to swear all the time to get my point across.

This account is now retired due to WLID changing. Webteam needs to fix that, seriously >.>

I like cursing for emphasis now and then.

Please tell me you're kidding.

It is not difficult to understand that those who use profanity do so b/c they lack the vocabulary to express themselves in an appropriate manner.

There are many kids on the forums who don't need to be taught that dropping f-bombs is okay. KEEP IT CLEAN!

I prefer to not have the option. It would mess up the forums and I appreciate commentary being on a more adult level.
What makes you think profanity is juvenile?

@ teh whole topic: In the short term I suppose someone could throw up one of those broswer scripts so many people love which replaces "-blam!-" with random naughty words...

I agree.

If there was a filter though, profanity would have to be filtered by default and then you can choose to turn them on.
