-blam!- remakes why don't you want something original.
While a little close-minded and crass, I agree with Mr Fett's sentiment for the most part. Personally, I'm burned out on remakes and have seen too many games and movies I like ruined by people who didn't respect the original source material.
This doesn't mean all re-makes/ re-imaginings/ re-boots are bad. Something like the last two Batman movies and Arkham Asylum and City games are good examples and we are all better for them. However, for every Arkham City, there are ten Doom Movies, Fallout 3's, and Halo Wars. Remakes will always make me and fans in general nervous.

why not have someone else do it.
That is often the case. Most games that are remade or given a sequel 10-20 years after their initial run are not made by the original company or creators. There are exceptions like Doom 3, but there are far games that are acquired by other companies and milked for cash, I.E. Bethesda and Fallout and 343 and Halo Anniversary. No one wants to make the same thing over and over for all eternity so most companies move on from a franchise after two or three installments.
Finally, I really hope that no one remakes Marathon, Bungie or otherwise. Video games are an art form in their own right. No one re-releases new versions of the Mona Lisa in 3-D or tries to use modern concrete to patch up the pyramids. Why does every old game need to be remade or "improved?" I'm worried that at some point, people will forget the originals and only remember the remakes. As gamers we need to take more pride in our shared history rather than trying to constantly rewrite it. Otherwise, we are no better than George Lucas.
Besides, there are still some of us who love the old stuff just the way it is.
