If you wow me, then maybe.

Would the Flood benefit by having a sticky for discussion of Religion, and one for Politics?

That way, all that discussion gets chanelled there (in theory), so:

a.- less bans/locks for new people/people who want to complain about something

b.- The people who do want to tal about it, but don't, now have a way to do so.

I'm thinking sorta like the old "The only BR/AR Thread" on the H3 Forum.

Would it work? Would it be beneficial?

You were thinking? Since when?

Probably not going to happen, these types of discussion are banned because they can ignite too much hatred. Having a sticky would be useless, they aren't spam, it just like having a sticky full of John Cena links.

It is still against the rules.

I don't think you can really compare between Religion and Politics and the Battle/Assault Rifle thread. One is completely subjective and opinionated (as well as emotional) and the other is based of a game developed by this site.

I don't think political or religious discussion should be incorporated into this site. It would be, to put it nicely, bad.

Ok, I see where you're coming from, but I think it would work, if only to stimulate enlightened discussion, if it ended up devolving into flaming, then obviously bans all around, but we might be able to get something out of it.

I know that there are people who are able to discuss Politics and especially religion, without resorting to flaming. But they are more than outweighed by people who are solely going to flame or troll, to get peoples emotions going.

I don't think you can really discuss anything in Religious threads (Politics maybe) anyway. It is more of an argument over which one is better ect. Heck even science based threads (such as evolution) are getting mauled, eventually turning into Religious discussion.

I understand the intentions and reasoning, however, but I think it boils down to how mature the Flood can handle those topics and, in my opinion, they won't be able to do so very well.

It's like a gigantic snowball, rolling down a mountain, eating kids on the way.

Good idea, but i dont think it will be allowed. Just because people on the internet are unable to have a discussion without it falling into a big huge flame war.

Can't say I see something like that happening any time soon.

When it comes to those sorts of topics, people feel very strongly towards their views on the subject, and will usually do whatever it takes to defend their views. Here it usually comes down to flaming and a bunch of profanity.

If people wanna talk about that stuff in a group, that's fine. The public forums don't have the level of maturity for that sort of discussion though. Prime example of this is the currently ongoing MW3 vs BF3 threads. Even stuff like that gets out of control if one person posts saying they don't like the other persons opinion on the games.

It's sort of like handling acidic liquids in a cardboard box. It will escape the containment it's in and spread like a flood.

As Dr. Weird said as well, this is not favorable because of everyone's strong opinions. It often leads to furious opposition between the multiple parties, leaving a forum in waste.
