Don't understand the problem. People accepted the SIII program without much ado. Integrating Forerunner technology into UNSC ships seems like a wise and probable move, and in my opinion made possible with Vergil's assistance.

That was at least hinted at and had some elaboration, the S-III program. Infinity and the S-IV did not.

It will in Halo 4. I'm calling it right now.

Remember she is human so human mistakes must be counted, this might be why she hates Halsey, is because she found a way to hide something and get away with it until she noticed something. Remember she has to watch on alot and it is not easy to keep track of everything.

Well duh, it was on the concept art wall. Probably won't come until the end though. :P

But that said, the S-III program went in-depth and actually explained how it came to be. The Infinity and the S-IVs received no such treatment. I understand there is a new book coming out, but it's just like what they did with Installation 03, they just put it there and didn't even elaborate on it.

Just to say may not be something that is important in this book and is not a flaw. It is only to introduce, and maybe the next books dwelve in it and some other story has a job with it, maybe it was left unknown for halo 4 considering how halo 4 is coming out around the same time as the next book.

Not to spoil anything from seeing the Infinity for the first time and be amazed.

still hope these flam wars end.

On topic more will hopefully be told. From the looks of it they already have the story spanned out on three books so you need all three books to understand the one story.

Would it have taken that much effort to say "We've been working on the Infinity *insert time here*" in passing? Or "We discovered Installation 03 *insert method and timeframe here*? Or "The Spartan-IV Program in *insert timeframe here*"?

If you're going to write a book, make sure it can stand up by itself and not rely on references placed around clumsily to get readers to buy the next book just to get a decent explanation.

The problem with the SIV and Infinity is that they were not foreshadowed at all. Sure they mentioned Infinity in the chapter quotes but there is no build up. If GoO, CP, or another book mentioned ONI experimenting with implementing Forerunner tech in ships then it would be okay. Infinity just comes out of the blue with no explanation at all. Same with the IVs. The III were foreshadowed in First Strike so that when it appears you can look back and see that they have been planing it for a while. Here it just seems like Traviss wanted a Spartan IV program.

there is alot to see and sooner or later maybe this will be backed up by other books.
True we have not seen it now, but we never had seen a book based on ONI and what they were doing before.

There were plenty of opportunities to do it in the reprints, GoO, and Halo Reach. All they needed to do was slip in a single line about ONI needing data related to the Spartans or that funding from other projects was being diverted to something top-secret.

You can't introduced something major then create books in plots in the past to justify it.

I understand new things are needed but a spartan IV project really isn't needed right now; especially when the entire force could be SIIIs.

Spartan IIIs were children. Parangosky made it clear she didn't want the next phase of Spartans to involve children.

Why do we need a new Spartan force now though? There is still a whole class of S-IIIs who were deployed before the Battle of Onyx.

It's obvious Infinity is going on a mission. Everything about the SII's and SIII's is going come out the woodwork very soon -- people are going to be angry enough without hearing a whole class of SIIIs have been sent on another possibly dangerous mission.

We don't really know enough to comment, to be honest.

And this is brought up because????

If They can now clearly use augmentations adults then why not spend that money to work on the entire military?

They could make augmentations standard along with some upgraded SPI armor. That would be a whole lot cheaper and far more beneficial than another spartan program.

Karen is making ONI look stupid but then again they didn't blow up HC when they had the chance.

But does that not mean a loss of reproduction and human multiplication due to the augmentation suprresing hormones

Spartans are more than capable of reproducing.

I don't think this is a Spartan program in the sense we know it. These people probably won't be wearing MJOLNIR, over 7 foot tall and beating down Sangheili with their bare hands.

Who says they won't soon make augmentations standard, anyway? And just because ONI managed to get someone onto High Charity it doesn't mean he could blow the thing up; details on how and why he was on the station are still incredibly thin beyond a few lines in Evolutions (I'm assuming that's who you're talking about.)

Spartans are more than capable of reproducing.

Even if they were not, I'm sure that ONI is capable of changing that fact.

Spartan IIIs didn't get that as far as i am aware since they weren't created to live long not to mention suppressed doesn't mean unable to.

And not that there aren't billions of humans that aren't in the military that can't reproduce at a steady rate.

If so, then they didn't exactly have to make it a Spartan Program. They finally could've used the name Project: JAVELIN to good use.

The Great Schism did just what it said; created a great schism. It fractured the Covenant and that's that. Covenant AIs were first introduced nearly a decade a go and we never got much on them from Bungie; because 343i haven't explained yet too that makes them the bad guy? Gamma Company hasn't been mentioned yet, doesn't mean it won't be.

Do you play Halo CE and -blam!- about how there's no Supreme Commander in it and how you had to buy Halo 2 to see what the Covenant's true motivations and inner-workings are?

That's like saying they shouldn't have called the SIIIs Spartans because they're not as proficient as Spartan IIs. Perhaps the project is called JAVELIN; they're just called SIVs the same way Project: ORION candidates are referred to as SIs.

Not really since JAVELIN was hinted to be another super-solider program.

It's that one parallel to Halsey's program, right? Makes sense, the description of the 'SIVs' fits JAVELIN's bill. Perhaps SIV is just a colloquialism. What else should they call them?
