After Halo 2 what will be the next job? I know they are going to have a small crew for downloadable content and maybe to make sure the XBL is running smooth. And sometime down the road Halo 2 PC maybe (even though not much need with XBL).
Do you think Bungie might get back into the RTS biz? Maybe finaly make that Halo RTS? That would be kind of neat. I know Marathon and even Myth still have a sizable following after all this time. And Oni wasn't that bad either. I have no idea.
I know first thing after Halo 2 may be vacation for some people!
Any ideas or official words?

Oh and what is the deal about Marathon, Myth, and Oni? Does Bungie Studios still own any of these game's rights?

  • 09.14.2004 10:45 AM PDT

Ach! Was ist los?

Bungie has Marathon, but Take Two has the rights to Myth and Oni.

--Mr. Smith wishes Bungie could get those rights back, but it probably won't happen in his lifetime.

I'll bet Take Two is waiting for Halo 2 to just start to die down, then suddenly come back with a new "Bungie" game (aka Myth IV, Oni 2). That would really tick me off. There is nothing I would love more dearly than for Bungie itself to make a new Myth game.

Pimps at Seat would be hella tight!
With all the new RTS sence Myth's times it would be cool to see a new RTS from Bungie made with the same love care as Halo 2.

I think they should definitely make Pimps at Sea with the headset communicator pimp hat and "iced out" controller.

A new Myth or Oni game, if created, would not in any way be given a connection to Bungie, as Bungie would have nothing to do with it.

Besides, neither Myth 3 or Oni did very well, and Take 2 is only interested in developing the properties they own that make money.

Well, I know that there could never be any offical connection to Bungie, but it would kinda be something seemingly subtle, like, not that they're would ever say this (but it would be implied) here is something Bungie once did, now we're doing it better. There's still a subtle trace of Bungie because they were old Bungie games. But, you're right, it's not likely they would release anything like that anyway.

Hey Ghost, I must agree with your point there. I really love the Marathon series, and updating it with modern technology would really be putting the frosting onto an already very tasty cake. (In other words it would be very, very good)

You make a very valid point. I guess I didn't think of it like that :)

When Microsoft aquired Bungie, Bungie gave the licenses to Myth and Oni to Take Two Interactive as part of a deal, because Take Two had investments in Bungie prior to the acquisition. Take Two also has the rights to use the Halo engine in a game (much like Wideload), but I doubt that'll ever happen.

As for the Marathon question, I doubt we'll ever see Marathon remade by Bungie. Halo, in its own way, revisits Marathon in spirit, and I imagine that's the closest we'll ever get to Marathon having a rebirth. Bungie doesn't dwell, really.

I hope they make Halo 2 for PC as I have no XBOX, and I'm used to the PC version. I've also never played any of the Myth games, so I have no idea of what you're on about. Hmph.
