"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams
While the results of Dropshield can sometimes be fun, the death of it is no fun at all. Lets face it. Dropshield was an iteration of the Halo 3's Bubble Shield. I think Bungie ran out of ideas for armor abilities and needed to add a 7th to keep their number 7 tradition going on.
However, especially in objective games, Dropshield has shown itself to literally break the game. Games like this are no fun at all. It may fun at first, but it really does show how easily abusable Dropshields are. So what's the solution? Cut it from matchmaking?
I think it would be easier to add variety to gameplay rather than cutting it. Why aren't more Armor Abilities added as pickups on maps? This would create incentive to add map movement. Like getting the overshield and active camo in previous games. Since you spawn with your abilities in Reach, there is no reason to move on the map.
Dropshield really shows its abuse in Objective gametypes. But what about slayer? You could say that there will always be the guy in the corner with the shotgun using it. But what if you add it to all maps as a pickup? Maybe the ideal solution for Armor Ability balance is having Sprint only, and adding everything else as map pickups.
Thoughts?
