Joey - the US Army uses video games, such as CoD to train people with leadership and tactical skills.

I'm fully aware of this and they do a good job with it
maybe thats why it pisses me off knowing half the people playing CoD are probly under 16 and it sends the wrong message

The average gamer is 37 years old and has been playing for 12 years. 82% of gamers are 18 years of age or older.

42% of all players are women and women over 18 years of age are one of the industry's fastest growing demographics.

Today, adult women represent a greater portion of the game-playing population (37%) than boys age 17 or younger (13%).

29% of game players are over the age of 50, an increase from nine percent in 1999.

These stats above reflect a survey done in 2011 based on 1,200 households.

Based on a study by the NPD group, 91% of kids aged from 2-17 play video games.

Blame this on society and the parents who buy video games for their kids and call it a "babysitter."

Yes, yes, and yes.

Most adults who play video games have been playing since they were kids. Why would we stop?

Just one of many stories.

And even if they don't use THAT specific game given to them, I'm greatly sure they play CoD as well with their friends.

actually i know a guy that's in the military and he loves reach more than any other realistic shooter.....just because

Reach is a meh Halo game.

But still better than other FPS console games.

Yes. Thats my opinion.
I agree completely. Reach is a good game, just not up to snuff with the previous Halo titles. It's still more fun than the multiplayer FPS out right now. I hope MW3 will have better gameplay than BO, although I'm sad that Infinity Ward is too ignorant to take what Treyarch does well (not that they do a whole lot well, but they have a few good ideas) and implement it in their games to keep the franchise moving. Also, would it kill IW to make a story that doesn't revolve around some bland, unimpressive squad of herpa-derps that I'm going to forget about five minutes after I beat the game?

Are you talking about MW2 or Reach?

Just kidding.

If strange how many of the complaints about any FPS transcends across any FPS shooter really. "CoD is just the same game but with updated graphics, monetary/credit system, and some new perks". You could almost say the same about Reach. The problems is, if you diverge from that recipe, people reject that change. I don't envy game developers.

There are more choices, more variety, and more triple A titles than ever. There's nothing wrong with trying and playing other games. I highly recommended doing so. It keeps things fresh and gives you perspective. Play anything for hours on end, with no variety, and you'll be burnt out on it sooner or later.

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

While we enjoy playing video games just like other guys, I don't think CoD or anything similar appeals to us because "It's like the military". It is not really similar to real army training at all. Maybe there are some simulators they are using, but for the most part, no matter how "realistic" a game may seem, they aren't really close to a real squad operation.

My 2 cents. I'm also looking forward to MW3 just because I loved MW2 with the exception of some of the perks (commando, one man army) and some of the killstreaks got to be too excessive.

Reach just got too far away from the core Halo gameplay for me to really get into it. I still play Halo PC from time to time online and enjoy it. I don't have much desire to go play Reach over the other games I have.

I don't think Halo is dead just Reach. The remake might spark something, but when halo 4 comes out I think it will return to its glory. Well hopefully... fingers crossed!

Pretty sure CEA might remind people of what "Halo" is and how it's supposed to be at least. Too early to put alot of faith into Halo 4 yet.

I am a loyal Halo fan who is willing to look past the negative aspects of Reach to continue enjoying it.

This game still doesn't feel like halo.

I'm hoping Skyrim will drag me away from whatever time I spend on Reach.

I was even suprised by the title update. I told all my friends that I wasn't sure about it, and I ended up being right, which was the most crushing thing I've ever been right about. ZB and TU gameplay is as bad as default Reach.

Can't wait for MW3.

Same -blam!- as battlefield. Hardly exciting.

Except battlefield isn't very fun and looks terrible. Reach isn't fun either. But MW3 is....just saying coming from a Halo vet.

I have to agree as well, I've been playing Halo for 10 years now and since I can't stand Reach and don't find it fun at all, it'll be traded in when MW3 launches.

BF3 has something completely different then MW3, the game just players slower so many gamers will also leave BF3 for MW3 as the game is just amazing. Crazy how VERY LITTLE is changed yet they keep a huge fan base. (Bungie, overlooked that with Reach)

And yet, here, we bash cod for being the exact same thing year after year.
lol, MW1 was amazing lets repeat it five time to get -blam!-loads of money!!!! at least battlefeild is headed back to its roots whitch i loved bf2:mc was my first game for the 360, and ill tell ya bf3 is lookin pretty much the same

I have been a huge halo fan since 2001, check the stats, and Halo definitely isn't dead. Still plenty of players playing, a title update to fix any nagging issues, and Halo CE anniversary will only bring in more players.

in order to train pepole at leadership on a platoon level as stated it would have to be about a 66 player (forgive my math 12 pepole to a squad >3 squads)multiplayer minimum so that rules out any live game being used in that manner

  • 11.02.2011 9:43 AM PDT

The Internet is an empowerment tool that's agnostic; it doesn't care about race, gender, or age.

I'm a vet and i still play.

  • 11.02.2011 9:44 AM PDT

I also think the same. I was one of those people who liked to play a lot of halo 24/7, now... i'm on a whole different wave, right now i play forza motorsport 4, halo is for me is not fully gone, but i know one day i'll be back on it soon, i'm even going back on reach to try out the new 343 update with halo 1 magnum and the new maps, when that update comes i will defenatly be on halo i bit more cuz of the maps, probably some forging. Moving on to the subject, even my friends where halo fans and now they don't play it anymore, 343 needs to do something to bring the lost players, and i'm pretty sure their not do that on reach, or the anniversary by that matter, probably halo 4 will make a much more drastic change to halo, and i hope it's for the good side!

  • 11.02.2011 11:07 AM PDT

This is a good thread because I think all of us vets who have been with the Halo series for a decade are stricken because we simply don't want to admit how bad Reach really is. Every Halo that has come out, I have actively criticized, but Reach has just taken it to a whole different level. I really only play Arena because I'm all about ranked playlist...but there is one ranked playlist in Reach with a population between 200-800 on a typical day. That really wouldn't bother me if it didn't take 10 minutes to find a game. I really never thought I would say this...but I think Reach has ruined Halo for me. That's tough to admit because I love Halo, but I love what Halo once was...not what it is now/becoming. It's time for me to move on to something else.

You said they use games such as CoD and then provide a link that doesn't even mention CoD. But you say you're sure they they play with their friends. Well playing with friends against 12yo homophobes isn't real life combat.
