Hi there! be sure to click that homepage link!

I'd like to know if any kind of advertising is banned.

What if I were to post a thread asking for constructive criticism on one of my songs? For example.

I need the rule of advertising to be explained further...

Key

- Do not use the public forums to run contests, solicit donations, barter or sell items/services, or advertise anything at all (except on-topic posts in the Classifieds forum).

There is nothing to clarify...

- Do not use the public forums to run contests, solicit donations, barter or sell items/services, or advertise anything at all (except on-topic posts in the Classifieds forum).
However, asking for constructive criticism would probably be ok to post, but it would go in the Off-Topic Forum.

Don't take my word on it, though. PM a Moderator about the rules if you are at all confused.

I for one love being called up every waking moment by solicitors...

Basically, there could be a variety of logical reasons why advertising is not allowed, however let's think illogically, or rather, emotionally for a moment.

How do you feel when you are fronted with an abundance of solicitations and advertisements? The nagging rather irks me, does it not you?

Recall that this is not a major reasoning, yet it is one of consequence.

To advertise is to make something known, yet since we are not permitted to advertise anything at all, you're best bet is to simply ensure your posts are void of assertions, points, knowledge, or information in general.

every thread here is a form of advertisement, you might not see it at first but it's true... just think about it

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I agree with this whole-heartedly; seeing as you're not advertising a sale of something, nor are you advertising a website that gives "free" stuff. Plus, I can honestly never say that I've seen a thread locked looking for constructive criticism, or help. A few examples in particular though - Kitchen 8 (Best thread ever, too bad it was deleted) and Heathers Camp.

None the less, PM a Moderator as suggested - it's better to be safe than sorry.

Depends. Will your thread be a thinly veiled "like and subscribe plz", or are you genuinely looking for feedback? If it is the latter, you can post it in The Flood; if it is the former, may god have mercy on your soul.
