Damn, your videos make the second pulse generator way easier to get through. You're really a pro at finding the most effective strategies to take on a challenge. I feel bad though because you put up these videos and I don't see them in time :(. I ended up spamming the door with rockets and grenades and retreating, and it was way more difficult. This time, though, I will make sure to wait for a longer time to play the next mission in case anyone wants to give me advice before I begin.

During the last battle of The Flood vs. Covenant, that was incredibly difficult. I was very close to killing all of the enemies a couple of times, but then I would die towards the end. I actually ended up sneaking past everyone on a Ghost and flying away on a Banshee. Skipping large battles isn't something I like to do, but it still gets the job done.

Well, onto Keyes...not looking forward to the part where you fall off the ship and fight your way through the near pitch-black atmosphere during some sections. Or the part after the cutscene where you collect Keyes' neural implants (or whatever they're called) and the enemies come pouring through the door.

I am aware that there is a glitch where you can jump out of the map and skip over half of the mission, but I have no intentions to do so.
Indeed. Well it's my specialty. Normal approach huh? The key to doing the normal/rush/speedrunning approach is to not be seen by the rocket launcher Flood. Or if you are seen by them, get them to blow themselves up. Then you can rush the remaining Flood.

I'm glad that you decided on that. If you had waited a bit longer, you could have tried it like this. Why go for a direct approach when you could sneak over to the Banshees on foot unnoticed? The Ghost isn't exactly sneaky because enemies know where you are when you're in a vehicle.

Here's how it works: trigger the Flood and then waiting for a while and a Wraith will come close and either all the Flood will die or the Wraith will be destroyed. Then you carefully make your way to the Banshees, staying on the right and easy pickings. Also, showing yourself temporarily like I did in the video might have made this possible. I only tried this twice and was successful on my second try. I got detected by Jackals on the first try.

I'll never do Keyes. Not because it's a hard level but because it's the scariest. "What happens if my flashlight battery runs out?" "Omfg what's that?!" "-blam!- -blam!-, it's a ghost!"

Yeah, that's mostly a tough battle of attrition. Last time I played, the elites weren't fast to show themselves, and I used a lot of heavy ammunition getting past everything else. My ghosts were almost toast and all I had left was the pistol and spare ammo to use against the two hunters and what was most of the non-cloaked elite contingent. I still had a fair amount of ammo left and the end, but relative to what I started with, I was absolutely on my last legs.
Once you take out the Wraiths, it's a cake walk. All you have to do is distance yourself and use the sniper on the Elites (excluding Zealots). To deal with the Goldies, rocket snipe them. That is, zoom in on 1 with the sniper, switch to the launcher and fire. Then fire at his feet. To deal with everyone else, use the pistol and grenades. This works best if the Flood are all defeated. To ensure that, wait for 1 of the Wraiths to come closer and engage them.

Yup, Keyes is not an easy one. Getting the Banshee at the end is a struggle. It almost killed my desire to finish the game on Legendary, I nearly gave up. But if you've made it that far, you can make it to the end.

That's all fine and dandy if the elites actually both show themselves and aren't alert enough to be moving to dodge rockets. Remember, I said that I had used up a lot of the heavy stuff while waiting for the elites to show. Usually I do just snipe them to bits and then mop up with whatever's available.

Well I made it all the way through on Keyes, and it wasn't too difficult. The section of the game outside of the ship was still very heart-pounding, especially when the flashlight went out and an enemy would appear in the near pitch black. That was always fun...

The part just after the cutscene was pretty easy, too, since I lured out both the Covenant and the Flood, and then I hid in a little concealed space, followed by some mop-up duty for the survivors.

Getting the Banshee towards the end was pretty simple, since I jumped on a Covenant carrier and then onto one of the Banshees down below. I thought for sure I would take enough fall damage to be killed, but I managed to survive, and as soon as I got in the Banshee, the ending cutscene immediately ensued.

Onto The Maw...not really sure how much of a challenge to expect, other than the Warthog run.

:)

The cryobay was one of the hardest sections on that level by memory. Those damn sentinels and flood all swarming around you can get annoying.

Here.

I admit the Goldies moved around a lot but that's because I put them in a panic by killing off most of the Covies. Or it was because I killed the Hunters. Last time I attempted fighting my way in, the Zealots were standing still. I did destroy the Wraiths with the Banshee last time.

What's all this about them not showing themselves? I didn't encounter that at all.

I was a finalist :P

Ah the Maw. The only level to ascertain an infinite flood and sentinel spawn in the Engine Room. Be sure to get the objective completed quickly.

Hmm, seems like they're typically alert when I play. I like it better that way anyway. :)
(Yeah, those elites weren't "panicking;" they were behaving how they normally do when they know you're there.)

In any case, I'd hardly consider your rocket work there an especially reliable strategy in general; looked like the first Goldie only died because of some lucky plasmas, and the second one wasn't killed just with rockets.
...Granted, if you had actually managed to kill the first wraith in less than eight rockets (!!!), you might have had enough left to at least sort of finish the job. :P

I usually don't, either. It's possibly because I fought mostly from the middle rock on that playthrough, but without testing I can't be sure.

I wish I hadn't deleted the footage of me rocketing the Zealots and them not moving.

Ah but I did kill the rocket launcher Flood combat forms in the previous area. I could have gotten rockets from there.

Well I'm going to go ahead and reattempt it.

Ok, here it is. I meant to upload it yesterday but I was using VirtualDub to make it more Windows Live Movie Maker friendly. Some parts have been speeded up.

This time, I take out 1 Wraith with exactly 3 rockets. I had the suspicion that they wouldn't start moving around until the Flood spawn. So they're basically sitting ducks for the rocket launcher as long as you don't trigger the Flood. I couldn't get a good position to destroy the 2nd Wraith without spawning the Flood so I used up my rockets again. Damn.

I also successfully pull off the rocket sniping. On both Zealots as well as the last remaining Elite. I lured one Zealot by going in from the right in a Ghost to draw him out. Unfortunately, killing the last Elite spawned the 1st group of Stealth Elites. I should have retreated as soon as I fired that rocket and swapped the sniper for a Shotgun.

In the end, after taking out all the Elites (except for the 2nd group of Stealth Elites, although I take them out eventually), I'm left with several Grunts and 2 Hunters with plenty of pistol ammo. Easy pickings.

Edit:

Of course, without the sniper rifle and cheap rocket sniping tactic, it's far more harder (I just attempted it) because 1. there's too many Elites to focus on 2. too much cover for the Elites 3. not enough ammo because dropped weapons often disappear when you're not looking at them/haven't picked them up (but when I revisited the Final Run area, there was a dropped rocket launcher and assault rifle).

Needler doesn't really work on them and you have to be lucky or have good anticipation to get a rocket on them from a close range. Plasma rifle just doesn't have enough juice. And by now, there might not be enough grenades. I haven't tested this with the plasma pistol though.

Well, I did it! I had several obstacles to overcome throughout my Legendary run, but I managed to pull it off.

The Maw was actually pretty easy. The only parts I had a little trouble with were the Engine Room and the Warthog run. I literally died once right in front of the platform, only about a second away from escaping, lol.

Once again, thanks everyone for all of the help.

Now only Halo 2 remains as the only Halo game I haven't completed on Solo Legendary. I can't wait to have fun with all of those Jackal Snipers...

Congrats! :D

Yes the engine room is hell. The Warthog run isn't too bad.

Sniper Alley? Fun?! Does not compute. :S

If the sniping gets tough, go to higher ground. You have a better chance of survival against Jackal Snipers that way. To deal with Hunters, just shoot them several times with the beam rifle and stick them with plasma grenades to stun them.

I thought the hardest part on the level "The Maw" was the canteen area, with the Hunter pair and Special Operations team. That took me 30 minutes alone to surpass.

Oh damn, I forgot about that part. Yeah, the Elites were annoying. Throwing grenades when you shoot at them.
