What's up with all the -blam!-ing negativity?
Stop it.

Feel free to PM me to ask me anything.

QUICK! SPAM HIM!

OT: You have no rights, play nice.

That seems to sum it up nicely.

@spaboolly

Don't create threads to whine about being banned. Odds are you really did deserve it. And if you truly think it was unjustified, there is a proper procedure to follow for that. Follow it.

Think before you type. Have some evidence to support any opinions you give. If someone disagrees with you, either ignore it and move on or engage them in a mature, flame-free discussion. Respect other people's opinions.

If you have an issue with someone, take it up with them personally (and privately if possible). If someone is harassing you and refuses to stop, PM a mod.

Follow Wheaton's Law.

One last point: Remember that this is the internet. If you thought kids in middle school were mean, and can't handle being openly criticized, called out for displaying poor judgment, or having people express that they dislike you, you will probably not do well here.

Lurk for ~4 years until they're Mythic and then join a certain private group.

It takes more than 4 years of just lurking to get to Mythic. I have a good amount of posts to my name and I've been around foreverz and still am not always a Mythic.

So, new members should lurk for 7 years before doing what Skibur said.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Post on The Flood and go nuts.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Don't drink the punch.

Astronomy Picture of the Day!

My tip, like the OP stated, would be to get involved in at least a few private groups as a starter, preferably of varying sizes and objectives.

You learn a lot about the community in your first year here, frequently by making an idiot of yourself. I know I have. Being in a smaller crowd can be more forgiving, or easier to get away from, when you do make mistakes.

Personally though, private groups are just as important as the main forums, just because I've made the vast majority of my friends here through them. Without those people, I would have left long ago since there have been times where the main forums haven't been fun for me. If you're not having fun on this site and you still come here, you're doing it wrong.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Dont post just to post. Dont make threads just to make threads. Spamming the forums with BS threads just annoys the veterans. Posting BS and then trying to cover your ass by saying please and thankyou at the end also is lame sauce.
And in the same vein is my personal favorite: Lurk more. If there's a better way to learn the rules and customs of any community, I don't know it.

Avoid the flood. And the reach forum. And the H3 forum... unless you like to be trolled.

Forum Rules | Terms of Use | Code of Conduct

Just take a quick look at the Forum Rules, Terms of Use, and the Code of Conduct.

Usually, a new member will go straight to The Flood and make pointless threads such as polls. And in a lot of cases, a new user who chooses to make threads may create a thread that may be against the Forum Rules, that user may recieve 2-3 warnings from a Ninja that realizes that the user is new. And if the user is smart and actually takes notice to the warning he.she may be more careful next time and may even start to post more carefully.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

Here's a good tip:

You see the words "John" and "Cena" anywhere in a guy's name, don't click on any of his links.
