People mentioning Coup shouldn't get too attached...
I think he was just trolling...
Are you referring to me?

If so, I'm serious about that. Coup just exists because the title system is so terrible.

Also, some may want to spice up their posts...

No, me and Der Flatulator are referring to a post Acky made a day or two ago about Coup.

The next time we substantially update bungie.net, Coup is going to get completely hosed. I'm curious to see what happens.

Not any time soon, though.

...But..but Coup!

For reference.

My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

They encourage people to follow rules and they make long-time members feel special: win-win.

They're nothing too serious, but I do believe that they discourage rule-breaking, so they're fine with me.
I'm with Zoidberg on this. A lot of people don't care about member titles one way or the other, and that's fine. But I have seen enough posts and receive enouh messages about member titles to know that for some people, the titles serve as a motivator to stay within the rules. So the current system works for me.

Of course, a few days ago, Achronos said not to get too attached to the current member title system, so I think it is safe to say that at least some changes are in store for us in the future. Hopefully they will address some of the more recurring issues people have against member titles. Or he'll just get rid of them completely ;-)

Doesn't necessarily apply to me, I take it.

I'm cool with it. And I'm not just saying that because I'm an Exalted Mythic Member....nope.

I think the poll misses a great range of opinions.

Anyway, I like titles. Some might give them an inordinate amount of importance or effort, but they're an effective at-a-glance indicator of posting habits for someone I don't recognize and effective in combination with avatars as a sort "face" by which I recognize people I do know.

Oh, and I find they discourage me from rule-breaking or toeing the line. I'll still do just that- my title doesn't matter as much as what I have to say- but I'd like to keep it.

Personally, I think there should be more added to the system besides just titles. Unlockables and other stuff to keep users in line but entertained.

That has the potential to be good, but also the potential to go hideously wrong. The web team would have to find something that cannot be broken. Most achievements can be farmed, for instance. Post count is flawed, what else could be used as an unlockable, anyway?

I don't really care much about forum titles but in my opinion they are good already and no change needs to be made.

*clings for dear life to my own* He hasn't deleted it yet! 4 years running.

Actually, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but I'm curious to hear more about what his changes are. I assume they'll be closely related to the next game.

Yax is a shining beacon in these dark times. You should all strive to be more like Yax.

I wish they were based off of a user-to-user reputation system instead of a join date + ban history + activity formula.

The higher your title, the more your "vote" would count. Ninjas/Employees being at the top of the scale followed closely by mythics.

At least that way users would have earnt their titles. Somewhat.

Let's face it, could you really be arsed spending time voting members up/down?

Didn't think so.

"I know I'm going to get downvoted for this, but..."

Sound familiar?

I don't like that system, it encourages posting for the sake of others' approval. Bnet is not a place for those desperate to validate themselves, such as Youtube or Reddit might be.

Me personally? Hell yes. I already accidentally "downvote" people with the report button before remembering that's not what it's for.

The majority of users? Probably not. But it doesn't need to be the majority. Just a sizeable chunk.

Also, eventually people would join in. If they saw somebody they thought were horrible at contributing to the forums we've a high title bar, they'd probably put the effort in to "fix" it.
