I might just pick up the forerunner Invasion idea and build that on timberlands. I'm having no luck with this map on forge world at all. It's not even funny how many roadblocks i've hit for me to have to redesign it 3 times a day.

So this idea and design are just too epic for Reach? Or are you having more practical issues than budget?

All of the issues I'm running into can be solved with 200 walls. I'm building it for 50 walls, and each shortcut I take ends up costing me the design.

If I have the heart one day I'll drag and drop 200 walls onto the map. However, part of me just feels like that's taking the easy way out. I used to be able to do it with only 50 walls, so i don't understand why I cannot any longer.

maybe it is too epic for reach. i'm becoming apathetic though because in a few days nobody will be around for playtesting.

How is actually setting yourself up to be able to finish it the easy way out?

Are you too involved to pull yourself up when you see the ladder out the hole you've dug for yourself?

If 200 walls is the answer why not just go with it? Sacrificing your design to fit an inadequate budget is never going to satisfy you when all you'll see in the finished map are all the ideas you had that were burned in the name of being economical.

P.S.

How long have you known you would need around 200 walls for your design? Was it all the way back when you made that one territory concept?

Because right now I feel like this map is never going to be finished when you keep constraining yourself without no spoken justification.

The design changes no less than 3 times everyday. It's been that way for the past year. It keeps changing because I keep running into roadblocks or developing a better design. The most common roadblock would be lack of room to spawn players. when i start to accommodate for spawns, i run out of budget.

I'm going to use 100 walls, and if that doesn't do it i'll go up to 200. either way doesn't matter though because when CEA comes out nobody will want to playtest for a long time.

Probably not a good idea. From early forge footage, the skybox is actually really low on timberlands.

also since there are no vehicles besides mongooses, and i didnt see any plans for an excessive amount of power weapons, will a limited amount of spawning be a huge risk for people getting spawn trapped?

last is it possible to have the spawns up in the air, giving you a lot wider variety of spawn points. they are ODSTs after all so dropping into combat from spawn may not be bad

I can't build the invasion version without using extra walls because of how New Mombassa is. It's not just a city block with multiple roadways within a sprinting distance. It's just one big roadway with buildings surrounding it.

Initially I had a huge vehicle battle in the canyon before entering the city. When I came up with a simulated drop idea like you were saying, i moved initial spawns into the city as well. Since I abandoned the drop (really cool but too controversial), I might be able to go back to that vehicular first phase i used to have.

we'll see. if all else fails, i'll build it on Breakneck since it already has the ODST aesthetic

Do not play halo much anymore. Barely ever come on here.

I say use the 200 walls man, it may take longer and "be the easy way out", but it will allow you to make the map way more legit then if you use the standard forge budget.

No I've just been distracted with CEA. I've been thinking whether or not I should make it on Headlong. I lose the supply cache idea if I do, but Headlong already comes with buildings, streets, and the ODST aesthetic.

I'm debating it because IDK if Headlong feels enough like ODST to me. That, and not a lot of people have the new maps. It would be easier to test the one on Forge World (and it'd show off my Forging abilities better methinks).

The project is still underway; I've been working on this for a year and I'm not about to give up. While I will miss the superintendent signs on Headlong, I think it'd just be a better idea to forge it on Forge World. If everyone had the maps I'd do it on Headlong.

Good news, I think I may have found the design I'm looking for

Phase 1: Assault. Intense, action packed phase trying to arm the bomb to destroy the gate into the city

Phase 2: A single territory to capture a supply cache. Hop in for time or fight for control over an overlooking building

Phase 3: Reverse core. Deliver it to a safe location

Now I just need to design the map on paper. This is good because it allows me to use the Quarry for phase 1. Actually, it can be anywhere on forge world. The quarry will just save me extra budget, but I suppose I can drop it on the canyon, alaska, or the beach

Can you make the game contain less dmrs and more covenant weapons, To make it feel more like the firefight experience I would suggest to give ODST's something different like Lasers and mongooses. Also more assault rifles(silenced smgs) ad pistols in the spawns.

I understand how you have the opening doors and everything from rally point, but I think the elites should attack and when each tier passes the humans have more weapons. Ex: 1st tier- Assault Rifles, pistols, and possibly a weak power weapon. Tier 2- A laser and mongeese(?) While the covenant obtain their own stuff.

I really have some great ideas to tell you but I can't explain them here maybe over XBL
