Sadly, there will be those players that complain about taking damage off of spawn (regardless of the spawn being protected), and that'll be enough to disqualify the map from possible MM integration.

umm, y u no invincible 5 second spawn traits or custom power ups?


spawn traits only work on respawn, and 6 custom power ups cost 300 bucks (which is the price of the simulated drop). So that's 600 bucks for something that'll literally last a few seconds.

I might still be able to do it actually...

Why cant you only use the pods for starting spawns? wouldn't it get a bit tedious if you had to use them each time? and of course cheaper for you.

Actually I'm not using pods. Refer to the beginning of this video. The problem with this is that they take damage off of spawn, which might frustrate some players. However, thanks to the addition of custom power ups (originally an oversight on my part), that'll be a thing of the past. The drop will still shake your screen, but you wont take damage, thus preventing players from being frustrated.

Problem solved. Also helped out with initial spawning, which I wanted to be elevated for the ODSTs. Which means I now have to do a little redesign to phase 1.

I think one of the reasons why I scrapped the drop concept early on was because I didn't know how host migrations might affect it. If the host switches during the loadout screen, the drop effect might not display properly, thus rendering it pointless.

It'll have to be tested under those conditions. If it doesn't work, I'll have Phase 1 set up in a way so that I can just remove the effect and not have to alter terrain in any way. I'll just drop the spawns down to the ground instead of in the air.

Allow me to edumacate some of you...

Have a gander at this image. This is a snapshot of what an Elite sees from initial spawn on Breakpoint. Notice how he cannot see either territory from the spawn? That's because Bungie intentionally designed the glacier to block LoS. So although there are NRs that spawn right in front of the player, they have to move from their initial spawn entirely in order to get a better view. So although their spawn is elevated and on a higher plane then the rest of first phase, Bungie managed to make it vestigial for the battle entirely.

That is one reason why Breakpoint is the best Invasion map I've seen, and it's why my map has taken so long to build. Little details like that are what make the map good in the long run. I 'm experimenting with elevated spawns as well, and if I cannot find a way to block LoS properly I'll have to cut it. This is because I plan to either start players with DMRs and NRs, or to have them available right in front of the spawn. It wont be fun though if you can just sit up there and pick people off the territories, so I have to put my own 'glacier' on the city streets to try and prevent that.

I detest anyone who says I don't know what I'm talking about. Most forgers don't even think of half this stuff.

Okay so obviously the video wasn't posted, and the map hasn't been tested yet. That's because I had to go back and look at something that literally all Invasion forgers overlook:

What happens to my map when players quit?

The reason we wont be seeing custom Invasion maps anytime soon is because of this critical detail. How will it play in 5v6? 4v6? 2v6? All these have to be taken into account when designing both the map and the gametype. So I'm looking at my first phase and I'm trying to see how I can make it 'quit-proof' for 4v6. Anything below that really isn't realistic, and it only matters for the first phase (since attackers should win the first phase 80% of the time).

Also, I'm disabling Core Cooldown in the core phases. Sometimes it's necessary for the core carrier to drop the core to defend themselves, and they shouldn't be punished for that.
