I wonder what will happen once the CEA comes out.....where will most people go to vent, talk, praise, whatever: here or does 343 have a site ready to go with forums for people to post in?

I do not know the circumstances of Bungie seperating from Microsoft and losing the Halo franchise, but personally, if I were Bungie I would filter every damn CEA thread, comment, reference and idea from this site. It has nothing to do with free speech, it has to do with them having to maintain and run a site that has much of its discussion about a game they did not produce, and will not benefit from (wow, Selena dumped Justin, you go girl!) and have lost forevermore. As far as I am concerned, Bungie MADE this gaming craze and several billion dollar industry what it is with the best game ever made and they earned the right to give a big middle finger to everyone salivating over another companies REMAKE of their genius.

OK, I have ranted enough......wow, I am getting jaded and angry and bitter in my old age!

As an old (maybe older than you, womy) gamer, I love everything that's happened. Bungie put its "This is the end of our thing" stamp onto H-3. "Wake me...when you need me..." They officially said, "We did what we did." Whatever thing happens with Halo, it's out of their control. Is pretty incredible that they wash their hands of the thing. But, as someone who makes/writes stuff, I understand. 343 is now the torch carrier, and I hope they deliver. But massive and relentless thanks to Bungie.

Howdy Nest!

Im 49 this month, probably way to old to be as focused on stuff like this but, hey, life is short, might as well spend some time at the food nipple when you should be being responsible eh?

Bungie also brought us the disaster that was H2. H3 was decent enough, but they still clung to the backwards level concept that they started w/ CE. Reach was not worth replaying and the storyline didn't entertain and enthral like the original.
I'm hoping 343 can do justice to the series and yet kinda want Halo to die. Twenty years from now I don't want to see 'Master Chief Vs. Predator' hitting the shelves as a movie followed by an even crappier cut and paste shooter.

Here you go

Bungie made 1 good Halo game, and that was CE. All other Halo games survived exclusively from Live. Take Live away from Halo 2 and what you have is the equivalent of Daikatana.

Yeh, alright, Halo 3 campaign was pretty good. 2 great levels out of 9.

lolReach. Nuff said.

It's true that The Ark and The Covenant were the only levels that truly delivered.

But there were two other levels that had some epicness:

Tsavo Highway, The Storm

Better make that 4 out of 9.

@op there's more strategy discussions here. People will most likely come here for help.

Fair enough.

Try and name a good Halo 2 level. Gravemind? Errr, maybe. If your a masochist that is. NEW MOMBASA LEVELS?! Sure. Corridor after corridor after corridor. I don't even understand how thats possible considering we are in a city. There was maybe one part in that whole level that didn't feel like a corridor.

I will admit, the gondolas in H2 was one of my favorite set pieces of all time. But stupid -blam!- like cutting the pillars, and flying the banshee one level up, and that ridiculously long and boring elevator where a couple of flood drop down... Ughh.

Best levels in Halo games:
CE - All except the Library. Fact.
2 - Maybe Gravemind. Maybe Delta Halo. Prove me wrong
3 - The Ark, The Covenant, Tsavo Highway, The Storm. Fact.
ODST - I only played through it once, but I LOVED Uplift Reserve. Opinion
lolReach - I enjoyed Oni Sword Base. The only level that really had that Halo feel. Opinion

I can name a good one but I can't really name epic levels other than Gravemind. I'm no masochist, that's for sure. And I haven't played the H2 campaign thoroughly enough to say which level is epic. I can say that Great Journey has potential though.

I agree about ODST. Uplift Reserve had that epic feel.

I don't know about that level but I know LNoS was abomination. Far from epic.

You haven't played H2 campaign because its probably the worst SP and co-op experience in the entire Halo series.

I absolutely hate LNoS, and almost exclusively because of the ship battles... This was a ridiculous idea to force this long and boring set piece on you.

Whats your list of worst levels in the series? Though I am quite sure I could guess some since a few are quite universal.

I said I haven't played it thoroughly. The only H2 levels I've played a lot: Uprising, Metropolis, Great Journey, Cairo Station. And 2 of those levels happen to be my favorites. You should know by my videos.

Indeed. 2/3 of the level is just for show. The space battle was too easy and boring.

Well if you insist. My list:

-Halo (H3 level, because it's too short and it's an insult to the epic experience of AotCR and The Maw)
-High Charity (because it's boring. They could have at least thrown some Elites in there)
-The Library (because it's unappealing and bland)
-Keyes (not really a worst level. I just don't like playing it because it's dark as hell :P)

What about yours?

You got vids? Link me.

My list:

CE - The Library. Long, bland and boring. In co-op, it passes, but barely. The single player run through is just painful.

H2 - Almost the entire corridor that was this game. The exception being the gondolas on Delta and parts of Gravemind

H3 - Floodgate, for possibly being the most pointless level in the entire Halo series. And Cortana because it felt like I was inside of a rectum, fighting off angry poos.

lolReach - New Alexandria (I think). The one how you fly around on a Falcon. No part of that level was fun. The flying got ridiculously frustrating too. LNoS for reasons previously stated.

If I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good nite.

CE- Every level is good, but there are definitely master pieces. Think about it, even the Library has its appealing moments. It's a survival, Oh $hit! level. When 343 flies off and you have to fend off the flood, that's intense. Also, the first go through might be confusing, but once you learn your way through the level, replays really aren't that bad.

2- Worst levels? If it wasn't Gravemind, Cairo Station, or an Earth city level, then it sucked. Too much Arbiter (whose invisibility was pretty much pointless). It doesn't help that every weapon got nerfed so that dual-wielding became necessary and melees got taken off the table in the process. My least favorite game in the series.

3. Tsavo Highway rocked. The Hornet level was cool. The Cortana mission sucked so much balls.

Reach- I liked Reach. I thought the levels were different enough.

The only thing about the game franchise is that I never got the epic feel from the other games. CE was such a huge, expansive game. AoTCR is so vast and sprawling. No other level in any other game came near to being as awesome in scope or execution.

I will say that ODST had the feel when you were the rookie at night going from piece of evidence to piece of evidence. Taking out the covenant patrols, those little skirmishes, that was Halo.

Here.

Recently, I've been working on H1 Two Betrayals Legendary. I have a thing for Zealots so I've been trying to bring that bastard on the bridge all the way to the ground floor (which I just did). These past few months I've been uploading H2 videos. But the one thing that has been the backbone of my channel is Halo 3, which I don't have access to anymore.

CE - Indeed.
H2 - Ok.
H3 - Floodgate could have used some more action instead of being a backward level. Ultra Elite support, more pure form diversity, half Flood (there's nothing impressive about a marine suddenly transforming into a combat form or getting overwhelmed by Flood).

Cortana was ok but too short and the Gravemind moments were annoying as hell.

New Alexandria... isn't that supposed to be the one that lets you do the mission objectives in any order? Anyways, I think the Covenant dancing easter egg was abomination. What happened to those adorable little Grunts in CE?!! It would have been more fun if all the Grunts were jumping in place, like this. And the Pelican of the drivable dropship easter egg could use some armaments (i.e. missiles). I want revenge on that pelican on Sierra 117 for kill stealing.

Nice vids, there, Sliding. The best Grunt jump of all times though, is, in CE. A couple of Grunts are separated by some distance. If you zoom in, you'll see that they jump intermittently, as if to tell each other, "All's ok here..." So awesome.

Thanks! :) Can you take a look at this one? It's what I've been working on for the past few days. They said this day would never come. What have they to say now? ;)

You mean on PoA, after the lifeboats start taking off? Yeah, that one is an easter egg if I'm not mistaken. It certainly is something special. Whereas the H3 one has no real purpose other than chance. It's a shame most people don't take their time when playing. It's speedrunning that makes the game more harder.

Btw there's another moment in Halo 3 that can be reproduced.

Alright, womy, you got me beat by a few years. You and Grump are older than I. But those of us who saw the glory that was CE in the old days should stick together. That...was a time. I mean, am I right ?...Magic on top of magic.

Well guys look halo is one hell of a story, gameplay not so much, point is if bungie was going to leave on reach then they did a horrible job (sorry bungie) we all miss the great battlefields of ce cuz hell who wouldnt enjoy a landscape of over 30 npcs versus another 30 npcs and you're stuck right in the middle, ce gave a hint at that, but h2 and odst focused more on close quarters combat where as h3 tried to bring back the nostalgic open areas of battle. And cea will bring it back. I've always loved battling it out on ridge line, and now cea is making it more fun and beautiful.
I bet that right when players get into the multiplayer maps they're gonna forget about running and shooting and focus on the beauty and wonderful skyboxes and how each map brings more questions than answers. I'm personally looking forward to the new terminals, that's the main reasoning have bought every halo game, including wars, point is halo as a story is badass, multiplayer was just the icing on the cake.

  • 11.14.2011 8:21 AM PDT

Oh man you reminded me of two betrayals, undoubtedly the best campaign mission in the game, for example when you have the choices to fight the covenant and flood or wait it out, it's creepy when you arrive in the hall that has a stairway leading up to flood shooting at no seen covies, beauty, and the part where covenant are fighting for their lives with two wraiths, epic, all I know that ce is the best halo game and that's why 343 decided to remaster it as to set themselves in a good name.
