Bungie should delete any account that isnt 7 years old and make the peons starts over again.

Thats a bit unfair, all or nothing. What about people who have been here for 5-6 years? That is still a long time to wait.

If Bungie changes things for the better than I'm all in for it. Let's pray to god they don't add the messenger tab at the bottom of the browser... That's annoying.

I hope Bungie doesn't use a 3rd party sign in (such as WLID again or FBID) because that seems to be where all the security flaws lie. Also, if Bungie forces us to use a third party, I might have to reconsider a few things. I don't trust Facebook at all for example, so if Bungie forced us to use that, I think my tenor here would be at a quick end. I tolerated WLID because I had no choice, and I didn't know better when I signed up. It seems to have worked out, though I know for a fact lots of people have tried exploiting WLID to try to social hack my password.

I think that Bungie themselves can, and will make a much more secure account system. So, here's me at least crossing my fingers that the majority of people in this thread are partially correct.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I agree, WLID also has problems where when it is down, you can't log into Bungie.net which sucks. :/

If Bungie had their own secure sign in, you could change your password and email which I wish I could now.

Also there should be 2 buttons on the profile menu: 1 is link xbox live account 1 is link PSN account.

By activating your GT, you can get like all the Bungie goodies and what not.

That is what I am hoping for.

Bungie will convert all the current accounts over to a new system. Similar to EA's network. I think that you'll have to sign up on PSN or Xboxlive or here on the site, and the account will be connected to each respective network that applies.
This seems like the simplest thing to do. Although when I brought up the idea of only being able to have one type of online service connected to your account someone said what if someone has the game for both systems. So I suppose you would have to be able to link two separate services to one Bungie.net account.

Or they could just keep the current system and tack on a PSN option.

If the new IP has any form of stat taking, without a doubt, I can confidently say that PSN ID linking will be added.

I highly doubt that they will ditch the current system, they can always edit it.

Social Networking is the future.

I've already called dibs on the name.

Mooolteepass.
While you have raised the issue jokingly I think this will be a big problem, not for Bungie per se, but for the users who want to maintain their usernames. It will be interesting to see if they do create some kind of new username system what happens to who uses what account name. I assume you could just keep the same account linked to the same password and email and just transfer those accounts over to the new system. Of course I have no idea how that would work and could be completely wrong.

While none of us have any idea how it will work, there is a bit of a precedent. When Bungie switched from PERL to ASP.NET, everyone got to keep their old username and profile (provided they signed up correctly again). If we take the axiom to heart that something will change account wise, its likely Bungie can make the switch while keeping our accounts generally as they currently are now intact.

A while ago I posted a big theory on what I thought Aerospace was at the time. A lot of the ideas could still be relevant though, just replace "Aerospace" for "lots of servers".

Seems in line with a lot of the ideas and questions raised here.

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

I think we'll get things like friends lists, post history search, and much better group options like group search features.
If I had to guess, I'd assume that bungie, having a huge community that is it's own draw outside of the games, would try to make Bungie.net more akin to a 'Social Network for Bungie Gaming'.

If this is the case, I think it would be pretty easy to guess the sort of things that will come with the update.

I would use that.

I'm much more curious to see what happens in the next uber-update.

Get ya popcorn and eat the thickest dick if you think I would waste time lyin to any of u.

If they make us use facebook to sign into bungie.net I will leave. I think they'll have one section for WLID's (xbox users) and another for PSNID's (playstation users), and somehow make the website work seamlessly with both types of user. Like we won't even notice a difference.

So, what do you all think? I'm curious about the Community's ideas. Pros and Cons of various methods, limitations, etc.
I would like them to use a new system where everyone can sign in with their Bungie.net username or the email address on their profile. Users would be able to attach their Xbox LIVE gamertag or PSN account to easily view stats and have access to more features. Users would also be able to change the Windows Live ID associated to their Bungie.net profile, which is currently not available.

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Cheeto is the only one among you that doesn't suck.

This. I really like the idea of a fresh start for the community. I might even be able to get my old account name back... But aside from that, it seems like the most efficient way to do it.

People will be logging in for all kinds of reasons, from Aerospace games to the new IP across many platforms. It's far more efficient to have a central member system that you can attach only the necessary gaming profiles to.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Pff. Should have joined sooner.

On a serious note, they should wipe every account and start fresh.

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

I think that you will have some sort of B.net login that is separate from other logins, and you add your various accounts from PSN or XBL to your b.net account. It will require you to sign into your PSNID or WLID to add those accounts to your B.net account.

I hear that, brother. I don't even want to see the option of linking to FB.

Ideal would be, like others already have stated, a new account type with the ability to link to different gaming services (PSN/XBL/etc).

I might be totally off here but from what I can gather B.net does not have access to our WLID details. This could create some problems with potential accounts transfers from the old system to the new one, assuming that there would be any gain (titles/join date) in such a transfer . Since I know nothing about programming I can only speculate on how such a transfer would be solved:
1. New accounts could be created while still being signed in on the old ones. This would take place during a short transfer period.

2. For people with the same linked GT prior to and after the switch the system would prompt a connection between the new and old account based on cached "GT link data", if there is such a thing.

I already dislike how much information Facebook shares with cookies and whatnot. Just seeing the "Like" button on non-facebook pages is creepy. I'd much rather they stopped spreading out over the internet, it's not why I use the site and it gets creepier everyday.

If Bungie ends up going with any type of Facebook integration I may just disappear. It's just too easy anymore to gather mass amounts of information on users, especially when sites like Facebook allow other sites to integrate it.
