We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.

What do you think he looks like, or it, or whatever it is? I see the Timeless One as a god, manifesting himself as what he wishes, practically everywhere, controlling everything at his whim.

He may look like light, he may look like utter darkness, he make look like nothing, but nothing is something in that it can be registered, so what does the Timeless One appear like to you?

When I initially learned about "him" while reading Cryptum, I almost immediately thought, "Wow, this must be the first Gravemind!" I don't know if it's true, but I always just picture the Gravemind like in Halo 2, just slightly smaller.

I picture a Lovecraftian entity, something so terrible and great that we can only understand the very basics of its most outer shell.

Not the Gravemind. I'll be disappointed if it's that thing again.

That's what I thought too but it's actually the last Precursor.

The prevailing theory suggests the Primordial is not the Gravemind in body, but only in mind. I would be inclined to agree with you; giant venus flytraps aren't intimidating.

The book describes his body. He is a Precursor, and I believe that he and Gravemind are different beings.

It was clearly stated in the book that the Ancient humans didn't believe he was a precursor and though of it to be an aberration.

Greg bear pretty much implies on his board too that "It" was lying.

and there is more than enough evidence that "it" and the gravemind are one and the same.

I think the Timeless One looks exactly like what Cryptum described him as: 4 arms, sort of like huge version of a Predator perhaps?

The Gravemind is his puppet.

The timeless one is the gravemind we defeated in Halo 3(most likely defeated because he survived one halo activation he can survive another).

IT was stated in one of the newer art books that the last gravemind was killed by the array. So the flood ether have a genetic memory (which is unlikely) or The Gravemind can transcend.

See thats what I thought at first, but it kinda makes The Timeless One's introduction into the Halo universe a pointless one if his story is already over, right? That's why I think since the Flood is seemingly the Precursors' creation, the Gravemind, as a construct, is a tool using which the Precursors control the Flood.

Looks more like some kind of robot to me. This is what I think we'll be fighting in Halo 4.

You could clearly tell that the "thing" was lying about that.

So what ? It was stated in the game or maybe the book even that forerunners died....its obviouse they didnt.
This is a part of a great mystery....So it is possible that the gravemind in hl2 and 3 is the one who waged war with forerunners....else then how can you explain his wealthy knowledge of the "makers of the ring" ?

Because this is called NEW INFORMATION in which it is now known that the gravemind was killed during the last firing.

And even "the forerunners being dead" had an explanation of forerunner machines being compartmentalized in case they were ever absorbed by the flood.

It isn't the same gravemind, especially since the outbreak on 05 happened 10,000 years after the ring fired.

Regardless, if the Gravemind that Bias was working with is indeed The Timeless One, it means that guy died a long time ago. The Gravemind we meet in the Halo games is another iteration that managed to grow on Installation 05. They have this whole Flood collective intelligence thing going on, so that means The Timeless One technically still lives in the Flood hivemind and could easily resurface at any point.

One thing to consider, however, is that in the Terminals in Halo 3, Bias tells the Gravemind that he now serves a new master, which I'm going to just go out on a limb, with evidence from the timeline presented in Cryptum, that this new master is The Timeless One.

What this means and where this ends, I don't know. Primordium probably will help fill in some details.

The thing to remember when discussing the Gravemind is that he is not the only Gravemind to ever exist. Hell, there could even be multiple Graveminds that exist at the same time since they all grow from the Flood Proto-Gravemind forms. Its just that this particular Gravemind got pretty far. When seen this way, it doesn't really make sense to just lump The Timeless One into one of these Graveminds.

Basically flood and gravemind are all one.
If flood exists then there is a gravemind somewhere away....it will know of it and know what that flood group knows.
So you can say that the flood existed on installation was there even before activation so it know what timelessone knew and what the previous gravemind knew.
Also i recon that the "new master" is Spartan117 since MB helped Spartan 117 get to ark and defeat flood.

You're right, the new Master probably is the Chief.

I guess the main point I was getting at was that there is absolutely no guarantee that The Timeless One is the Gravemind. There are and have been multiple Graveminds. I strongly believe that The Timeless One resides outside of any of them, but perhaps has departed knowledge into them?

Maybe its just me who wants The Timeless One to be alive just so that I can see him in all his glory in Halo 4...
