It's not worth trying, it only takes one bad egg to get the op banned.

If you want to discuss politics or religion, there are thousands of places to do both online. Why does a video game company forum need to discuss them? If we want to discuss these topics, there are private groups that allow them.

I find myself very intrested in politics, i don't see why we can't talk about them on community or the flood.

People can't handle it. They just can't. This has been asked over and over. Private groups are the place for that. Sometimes not even there is a good place.

Lots of trolling on it.

Oh, pipe down. People can and do handle it. Political threads are a regular feature in the flood and often they're quite productive. All they take is a steady hand and a civil tongue. The problem lies not in the nature of the thread but the lack of people willing to keep the thread on track; a community cannot be blamed for posting utter drivel when they're positively encouraged to do so.

Really? Where's the positive enforcement? The rule that says you can't do it? Oh, that makes sense. Honestly, you're so annoyingly pompous sometimes even when what you're saying makes almost no sense.

What in the -blam!- are you even talking about?

Re-read what I posted.

There is nothing in the rules about not posting drivel. In fact, there have been quite a number of posts in the past about moderators not acting as moderators, rather acting as enforcers of the rules.

There is quite a lot in the rules about not posting anything worthwhile. Anything relating to news or current affairs runs the risk of landing you with a lengthy ban. End result, positive reinforcement of MOUNTAINS OF DRIVEL. Old users have no reason to stay (and often run the risk of bans by staying), new users have no examples to follow.

Honestly, you're so annoyingly pompous sometimes even when what you're saying makes almost no sense. This is what we call an ad hominem. That I'm pompous has no bearing on what I'm saying, neither should it have any bearing on your ability to understand what I'm saying. If it does then you're long since past helping.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

As has been said already in this thread by some, I believe that it doesn't belong in the public forums. This website revolves around the game developer Bungie and their games. If you want to have a political discussion, talk over Xbox, over the phone, in person, on another website, or in a private group, but not in the public forums.

I happen to enjoy listening to political debates, and I like reading the discussion about it on forums, and sometimes I like to add my thoughts. But too often it seems people take political threads personally, as if people (instead of stating their beliefs) are attacking their own beliefs and this is wrong. It leads to confusion, anger, and frustration.

Short answer as to why we cannot have political discussions here: We can't handle it.

Slightly longer short answer as to why we cannot have political discussions here: Some people cannot handle it, and because of this we cannot. I do not like this, and I would almost like to see that changed, but...whatever.

Wake me, when you need me.

It's bad to discuss politics anywhere. The discussion never ends well.

Have you ever seen a single political thread that had a good outcome? Didn't think so.

Now that's just not true. I mean, I'm against them being allowed on here, but there are a handful of hot topic'd political threads that were fine and dandy without any hate. The thing is, they're in the VAST minority.

The wealthy are taxed enough.52 pages, by and large a good discussion.

Guns in AmericaJust shy of 1600 posts, again by and large a good discussion.

Were I sufficiently bothered, I could find quite a number of examples of threads that skirt the edges of politics on everything from guns to economics to healthcare to education to the environment. By and large they stay reasonable discussions. I could also banning every single person in the above two threads because 'politics'.

Bad example. That thread was about lightbulbs.

Grey area threads can provide some of the more interesting discussions. As a member, I sometimes enjoy jumping into the debate, or else observing different arguments. I will sooner look for a reason not to lock such threads, than the other way around.

This thread is going to be a perfect example of why it's not allowed.

....

If your point was that a topic as overtly political bait as that is capable of perfctly reasonable discussion then sure. If that's what you're going to hold up as 'herp derp politics make people stupid and rude' then you might want to sit this one out.

It was one post away from absolute hell. Whoever locked it knew what they were doing. Who knows what would have happened. The website probably would've crashed.
