Trevelyan is the size of Earth's orbit and black, does that look like the thing John is going to? This is just another "John's GOING TO ONYX!" thread.

Sorry for my wild and idiotic guess, I Haven't had the chance to get the book yet and i foolishly read spoilers, although i don't think your reply needed to be that agressive

Then next time don't just spout out nonsense and make a re-skinned Onyx thread. It's that easy.

  • 11.06.2011 1:16 PM PDT

for gods sake, calm down , It was a simple question, and how is this a re skinned onyx thread? the only similarity there is that it was a wild guess, nothing else, i didn't read the book so i didn't no much about what it looked like, and i wanted to see what people who DID read the book thought about my guess.

Because Onyx and Trevelyan are the exact same thing. And you got an answer to your guess, it's wrong. Sorry I;m not going to kiss your ass. The folks on Waypoint will though.

  • 11.06.2011 1:31 PM PDT

Wrong. Onyx is the name given to the outer "shell" of the Dyson sphere which was mistaken as a planet. Trevelyan is the name given to the Dyson sphere on the inside of onyx, so go -blam!- yourself

Everyone still called the Dyson sphere Onyx, everyone knew that and everyone called it that. Onyx still has a better ring than Micro Dyson Sphere.

But I must ask, why are you mad? Everyone makes mistakes, you're mistake is just a common one.

Woah, I am not the one who is angry, take a look at your replys they seem very as-matter-of-fact and aggressive and you seem to spurt facts as statements and now you deny mine by saying "onyx has a better ring to it"

It does. Everyone referred to the Dyson Sphere as Onyx. And yeah, I can be natter of fact because I've actually read Glasslands, you haven't. So when you do, you can come back.

Is Glasslands a good book?

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

Sure is.

Well, actually Onyx was a false planet made of Sentinels. Trevelyan is a huge, black sphere the size of a SOLAR SYSTEM. I don't think the OP's idea is too good either, but man, CALM THE -blam!- DOWN!

Trevelyan is Onyx. Frankie's already said whatever the Chief is floating towards, it ain't Onyx.

The planetoid Chief is floating towards is still alive, implying there's live in it. As the Engineers on Onyx said, no one else is alive in there.

Yeah I can confirm that MC isn't heading towards me. I'm not picking any half-ships on my scanners. Just a bunch of people inside me.

He didn't read the book and made a stupid claim, why should I? Besides, I'm not even that mad, just annoyed.

I never fully grasped the whole Onyx concept, I'd be grateful if someone could explain it to me. This 'Dyson sphere' is within slipspace, right? And Onyx contained a portal of sorts which linked to the sphere? Was the Dyson sphere in the same space as Onyx, or was Onyx simply a bridge to the sphere?

Also, a Dyson sphere is a theoretical thing in physics, right? I'd appreciate an explanation on that as well, if anyone doesn't mind. Sorry for getting off topic, although in all fairness it's not much of a topic.

I am only doing this because i like you other than that i wouldn't even try explaining something confusing as this.

I will like to tell you i DO NOT fully understand it ether i am just telling you what i made of it.

In the novel halesy (somewhere) states that it isn't a "true" dyson sphere.
When the sphere was dropped out of slipspace it is just that, a large black sphere the size of our orbit or so. But in-order to interact with it you have to go through an opening (which you can't see) then you will travel Via slipspace to the inside.

Thats what i made of it. Yes a Dyson Sphere is a large construct built around a sun to harvest its energy. A halo would be the same thing.
