Subject: What's faster: Reporting a post or PMing a Mod?

I've spent a good deal of time here on BNet, and I've always had this same old question. What actually happens when you "Report" a post? Does a flag get sent to current mods to check it out? Or does it go into Disembodied Soul's intimidating lair?

Also, what's a faster process? Hitting "Report" or PMing an active mod?

I would say PMing an active mod. The trouble is, you don't know which ones are active.

Oh hey there

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

If it's especially egregious do both, take the guesswork out of the equation.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Reporting a post is a global report to all moderators, which is faster; however messaging a mod may take a bit more time.

Whoa, 4 Mythics posted after my post. I feel intimidated.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I usually report stuff, but if I see something really bad I will usually try to contact a moderator through other channels (but seeing as I only know one, and not well at that...and he's not a moderator any more, I don't know what I would do if I saw something really bad anymore. I would probably just report and move on. I also just realized that this is a pretty long parenthetical statement...).

Got a question, comment, or concern? PM me.

I would assume PMing would be more effective because it shows you care enough to send them a message about the situation at hand

I believe PMing a mod is faster than reporting.

If I want to report and extremely bad post, I just PM Durardo, and now most recently Revan.

why does your attitude to the post in question matter?

It shows the urgency of the situation. Usually, if it is something like useless spam you wouldn't care enough to write a message to a mod when you can just click a button to do the job and it will get sorted out eventually because mods might not look at generic report replies when they are so easy to spam. Whereas if someone posted a shock site, you would want them taken down ASAP, so you would message the moderator and that shows it is probably a big deal if someone PM'd them about it.

I don't know, that's just how I would think of it.

I never message a Moderator unless It's urgent. There's a report button for a reason.

Reporting is much easier, but PMing an active Mod is probably faster.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

It depends. If it is somthing stupid like, "Which Halo vehicle is best", then report it. If it is something bad, PM and report.

  • 11.06.2011 5:03 PM PDT

ISU Cyclones!

Yeah reporting is generally the better option for the mods since sifting through PM's would be much more difficult for them than the report queue (I assume that would be the case at least)

PM is more of the super emergency situation. Like people said shock sites or if one new troll account is just disrupting an entire forum non-stop.

Most likely PMing a mod.

PM an Active Mod, every time. I only do it if it's something that needs to be addressed but won't be reported enough to bring it to the report box or if it's something serious.
