I am a monument to all your sins

A gripe that many people seem to have with Glasslands is the fact that many elites still harbor hatred towards the humans, despite learning that the prophets were liars, and receiving aide from humanity in destroying the covenant loyalists. What people need to first realize is that not all elites still want to destroy humanity, the fact that 'telcam needs to work in secret attests to this, the novel merely doesn't portray the viewpoints of any elites loyal to the Arbiter.

People also must consider that the elites view themselves as the good guys, and as such are not exactly willing to admit that they just willingly participated in a massive xenocide against the humans. Many of these elites personally participated in these atrocities, and in order to maintain their own sense of self-rigorousness they need to somehow rationalize their crimes as not being evil.

before the schism the elites had religion to justify their actions, but when this justification was revealed to be false they needed a new outlook to maintain their self-respect. To accomplish this, many elites convinced themselves that the humans were dishonest scum, who will stop at nothing to expand into elite territories.
This rationalization also fed into the elite's need for a purpose now that the covenant had fallen. If the humans are planning revenge, and can't be trusted as allies, then the logical thing for the elites to do would be to declare war with them and finish what they started, thus restoring the sense of purpose craved by many Sangheili.

discuss.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

They are just mad because they couldn't wipe us out and feel that this is the price for that.

they could easily wipe us out if the Arbiter would allow them too. They may be disorganized, but humanity is even worse off at this point and with less advanced technology.

No they couldn't.

We have the advantage right now since we built everything from the ground up. Did you read glasslands?

They have few ships and trouble maintaining the ones they have.

Humans now understand forerunner tech, have a massive technology based ship, Spartan IVs are being made along with Mark VII,improved slipspace drives, etc.

If an all out war happened it would be grizzly but we would win.

Nope, the UNSC could slaughter them. Did you read the state that the Sangheili were in?

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Old habits die hard. I wasn't even aware that this was contested.

I don't know about that, We have very few ships upgraded with forerunner tech, not enough to win the war. And while the elites don't have many ships, neither do the humans, and the sangheili still have better ships that the UNSC. If united with a new common goal such as a war, the elites would quickly pull themselves together and probably win. The only thing the elites are good at is war, and while they fall apart when dealing with domestic issues, a war would quickly unite them

For every elite ship we destroy we can build 3 more (Frigates) they can't build any more. And not All the elites want to fight us

Most of the Elite's tactics are laughable. They basically Zerg rush and their superior technology and greater numbers allow them to win.

In one part of Glasslands didn't it say we had around 50 ships?

I know all elites don't want to fight us, which is why they aren't. Don't forget that it takes an average of three human ships to destroy one covenant ship, and it takes months to build a new warship. If the elites are quick enough they could destroy earth and then, pick off the colonies at their leasure. It would be a close fight though, and it is very possible that the humans would win.

Edit: this thread is getting off topic

Executive summary: war is complicated. Its not red vs blue. There are factions and all sort of shiznizzle.

Deal with it.

And yet they completely stomped Truth's fleet above the Ark even though they were outnumbered by the Brutes three to one. Tactics and strategies change depending on the numbers you have at your disposal and how the enemy compares in strength. If you have a massive amount of ships (or troops) and have far superior technology you're not going to be as careful as you would be if you and your opponent were on a more even footing.

Lets see. A species spends 28 years trying to wipe another one off the face of the galaxy with extreme prejudice.

All the sudden a little event happens and they are just supposed to change the entire thing that has been motivating their entire society?

It's not that easy.

How could you honestly not see the clear reason for them not worrying? I love you coma, but sometimes you ignore clear reasons in your arguments. And yes, all the covenant did during the war is use numbers because if they used brains they would have used 20 CSO class ships to wipe us out.

And example being the controversial Typo of 800 ships attacking reach which only has 100 or so ships and MACs "on one side.

If i really need to break that down for anybody..

A better explanation is rapid social amnesia.

How good are Brutes at commanding ships? Given their propensity to just charge you when you fight them on the ground, and the fact that they have only just become the naval commanders of the Covenant navy having never had any experience in such a role before it is likely that they were utterly careless and gave the Elites an easy match.

The brute radio discussions I remember from the Ark seemed to point at them as likely to smash each other <_<...

"Fight harder or it's ME you'll face!" I believe.

Wouldn't say they are completely awful, but the Elites have been at it far longer.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank god that such men lived. ----------- No Bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. (both by George S. Patton jr.)

We also seem to be the species that can adapt really fast.
Just watch one of the ways the world might end on history channel and you will see someone say something along those lines.

To me it seems that the at least some Sangheili are afraid of what will happen to their race once UNSC recovers, they know that humanity won't forgive them, they know that unless a miracle will happen humanity will recover first and maybe they realize that post-war humanity will have better toys then the ones they used during the war.
