to start off this informative PSA, most people who are new to halo don't even read the manual. now i know this because about 85% of the people I play on halo don't know how to use teamchat or vehicle chat. pathetic. i can read the opposing teams strategy like a book and laugh as they wonder how i knew what they were about to do.

what does this have to do with CD keys? well, if you didn't read the manual, then chances are you don't know much about CD keys. you probably didn't know that CD keys should never be shared. you probably don't know that each CD key is unique, and if someone else knows your CD key, than they can download a pirated copy of halo and play using your key. pretty much using your $50 to $20 that you paid for your halo and playing it for free. pretty sucky, huh? read on.

below is a short section of unedited dialogue recorded (copy and paste) between me and another gamer on an IM service. i have played the halo demo with this person before on many occasions.

DEOX2: hey
[ZC] Tango: hi
DEOX2: ouy have the manual for hallo
[ZC] Tango: yes
DEOX2: wat is the key
DEOX2: can you help me plz
[ZC] Tango: lol j00 n00b LOL 11one1iii111i1i1
DEOX2: wats that
[ZC] Tango: like i would give you that!!!! n00b lol1111li1l1il1!!!!!
DEOX2: how
DEOX2: you wont help me
[ZC] Tango: its MY cd key!
DEOX2: ok
DEOX2: i see

now while you probably find this hilarious, wait a minute before you burst into unchecked laughter.

what if i had been a newcomer to PC/Mac gaming, and had not the faintest idea of the importance of a CD key, or even what a CD key was. then this opportunist could have stripped me of my CD key easier than assembling a pre-assembled chair.

what if i hadn't known that you are supposed to keep your CD key secret? i would find little sympathy from either DEOX2 or Tech Support.

CD key stealers often put on a front of pleading and begging, but don't be fooled. you might think you're helping a friend, but you're only hurting yourself.

your mother may have told you to share, but keep in mind, that does not apply to CD keys.

and so, i have composed a helpful song about CD keys and those who would steal them from you.

verse one:

when people ask you for your CD key/
just tell those pirates "get away from me!"

your gaming friend wants to borrow yours?/
tell 'em "cut the crap and quit being a whore!"

he may plead and beg but you'll never give in/
and anyway who needs that trash bin!

chorus:

its yours, its your CD key/
go get your own don't bother me.
i don't want to help you so go away/
hey slacker, get lost today!

verse two:

there all just cheats and thieves too/
don't let em take your key from you!

tell those leeching losers to get lost/
or you'll kill em faster than tobasco sauce!

go warn the people that the cheats are near/
run and find your CD key and hold it dear!

chorus (x2):

its yours, its your CD key/
go get your own don't bother me.
i don't want to help you so go away/
hey slacker, get lost today!

The effort is applauded and greatly admired. I especially love the song. Very creative. You've earned my kudos on that. It's nice to see people willing to put an effort into something they feel passionately about.

The only thing is, most of this is covered in the sticky up top. So...I'm not sure how well your chances stand on this being stickied or linked to. Still, love the effort.

Yeah, what he said.

Kudos to you, ZC Tango! Whatever that means. Nice effort into this thread.

I read the manual of all my games.

Man i would NEVER give out my cd key let alone sell it!! I went for months running off a friends copy and being rejected by servers but now i have my own copy and neither it OR my cd key are leaving my sight! lol

A. FURY

P.s even if i was new to Halo i know that a lot of games wont allow you to play online with multiple copies using the same cd key lol

Funny, about this subject, I went into a clan server and guess what the requirement was to get in? You have to have a real copy of Halo and give your CD key for "security purposes." Wow, that was real bs, I thought. So yea, never give your CD key out.

There's been this one guy popping around the Bungie servers for like the past 6 months asking for a Star Wars Battlefront 2 CD Key. I think his name was RAge or something to that effect. I remember someone once gave him a fake CD key just to get him to leave. Heh heh heh.

Mean?! Lol, how would you feel if you spent a long time on a game that was a best seller to find out that it's being pirated by people? (ya, I'm a hypocrite since I pirate all games, but I actually bought Halo)
