Now that we know that it's true, I just want to say, if this means that I'll be able to play Reach and Halo 3 on the PC through some elaborate emulator, I will gladly pay for live.

I'm still waiting on some more information on that. There are a great number of things about Windows 8 its self that are making me wary. You never know what kind of -blam!- Microsoft might pull with the "Xbox LIVE on Windows 8" system. I wouldn't put it past them to make it 360 controller only, convince PC developers to just make the games for Xbox 360 to save money, and/or purposely damage the performance on the emulated system to make their console look better than PC gaming to anyone that is interested in switching over.

In the end, when you hear something that's too good to be true, it's not. That statement might not be true for all things in life, but it sure as hell is when it comes to Microsoft.

Something smells fishy...

If Xbox Live integrated into Windows 8 means people will be able to play Xbox 360 exclusive games on PC, well, that would be pretty cool.

But if they make it controller only as Dr Syx suggested as a possibility, well, that would be pretty [b]UN/[b]cool. And then after sulking for a bit I would go out and buy a PS3 and join the Occupy Wall Street Protests for a day (if they're still going on in 2012) and be asked, "So why are you here?" by some hipster/broke/cute/art student/girl in which I reply, "Uhhh...I don't like Microshaft...I mean Microsoft?" And she'd smile and we'd run off into the sunset and then eat hotogs and then she'd eat mine...Oh sry skip that part...and then and then and then..................life..etc...etc...etc. Profit(not).

Nobody of us knows the answer with certainty since Xbox Live wasn't included in the Developer Preview of Windows 8 released months ago. We can just make assumptions.
It would be cool of course if it were true, but I'm sure that Xbox360 games would look the same as the original ones. I mean: they wouldn't be optimized for PC. And honestly, I wouldn't "gladly" pay for live as you would.

You've been taking in some form of narcotic recently, haven't you? Either way, I like where you're going with that.

Actually it's been confirmed somewhere that Microsoft is implementing Xbox Live on Windows 8. They just haven't said what exactly that means yet.

That's what I was thinking. The only thing I'd enjoy with it is the fact I could use my keyboard/mouse with those games. My right thumb is messed up from a dog attack when I was 11. It's not that bad, but I can't really aim all that great with it. I can't even give a proper thumbs up without it hurting. :'( #firstworldproblems

All the more reason to think going to the "Occupy" protests is a good idea, then!

blarg.

I have the developer release of Windows 8 (it's a free download). Live will probably be another on a long list of kickass things in Windows 8

If Windows 8 lets us play 360 games on PC, then I hope that we can actualy increase the graphic settings of 360 games. The majority of 360 graphics look almost as if they are trying to emulate the quality of a good PC game on high graphics. Although it may appear to most people to look super HD and epic, to a PC gamer most of the 360 graphics look like multiple optical illusions put together with an unesesary amount of lighting effects.

oh god omega we get it, you think PC gamers are superior in every way and enjoy being one. Just stop trying to derail threads with your drivel.

If Windows 8 would be able to play Xbox360 games, I think that very probabibly we can forget all these features:
- Graphical improvements (Antialiasing,HD,...)
- A proper map editor
- A server browser (we'd just have the matchmaking)
Of course, there would be also some advantages:
- We would have the chance to play all Halo games released till now without waiting for PC ports
- We could buy all Halo games at a low price (Halo 3, Halo 3:ODST, Halo Wars and Reach are discounted now)

Okay, everyone here needs to start thinking realistically. If we are getting to emulate the Xbox 360 games we're not going to get new features. That means asking for things like map editors, server browsers, Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, and increased graphical textures are completely out of the question. The only thing I'm willing to bet we would be able to do is play the games in 1920x1080 seeing as though resolutions aren't something that requires the game to have as a feature.

I remember something at the Halo 4 Panel at Halo Fest. Someone asked if Halo 4 would have some sort of advanced map editor on the PC. At first I was expecting a simple "Lolno", but something odd happened. They actually said they were talking to Microsoft about doing such things. I imagine it's going to be hard to convince Microsoft to do it, but I could imagine the possibilities for a map editor in Halo 4. There's also a distinct possibility that they might be able to include settings for other graphical options in newer 360 titles that PC players using the official emulators could access. (That's just extremely wishful thinking, though.)

You won't be able to play emulated games on Windows 8. At best they will be ports and there's zero reason why that couldn't be done with Windows XP/Vista/7. I would hope that Halo 2 'Vista' taught this community a thing or two about Microsoft's marketing in relation to games.

The last thing most PC gamers want is the privilege of being able to pay for a suboptimal gaming experience provided through Xbox Live, so I can only hope that Microsoft's actually put a bit of thought into this. I wouldn't get your hopes up though; Microsoft tries to put a gaming spin on every Windows release without ever actually delivering on their promises.

I don't know if Microsoft has anybody overseeing the development of Windows as a gaming platform but if they do, they need a stern talking to.

Wait a second.

Pinball FX 2 is a Xbox360 exclusive game. And here they are playing it on Windows 8.
Does it mean we'll be able to play all Xbox360 games on Windows 8?

  • 12.05.2011 11:10 AM PDT

I don't mean to be a killjoy or anything here, but isn't only Xbox Live itself confirmed as of yet? Which essentially means you can log into your LIVE account on Windows 8 and have access to features similar to the Xbox (seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS60SDXD88o).

However, I'm all for playing 360 games on PC, it would make things much easier and would open up a range of opportunities for gamers such as cross platform across many games (though i'm assuming they'd only allow controller for ranked games, see no reason not to allow m+k for co-op/private matches). That, and as long as it doesn't deter developers from creating a TRUE PC game. Just my 2 cents.

They ported it, as stated in the video.

You're not going to magically see the 360 catalogue playable on Windows 8 and if it does happen, I'll eat my hat.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

You sure? It's a pretty cool hat.

Last member of the i4Ni clan.

yeah right after I buy one :(

I'm expecting some type of "supported list" from microshaft, and you'll only be able to play those until someone cracks the emulation software.

also, i don't see why microshaft would do this seeing how concerned they already are about piracy. Are they going to have an activation service based off the serial number on the disk or something? cuz we all know how annoying installing microsoft products is >____<

I havnt read all the replies to this thread yet. So if I've misses info... my bad...but remember 2 things.

1. Remember just because it says xbox live is going to be apart of Windows 8 doesn't mean that its gonna play 360 games. It can just mean you have access to the service and info. (Friends list, messages, ect.) Example is windows phone 7. Just because it has xbox live on it doesn't mean you can play 360 games on it.

2. Even if you can play 360 games on windows 8..... why complaine if its controller only??? Don't complain about a feature that they don't have to add or give you access to. If you don't like it....buy the pc version. If its an xbox 360 only title... they let yu play a 360 game on pc! Don't complain

Long story short... you have free will you don't have to play any of it.
