2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Everyone is aware of the problems that having custom avatars could raise but what if they implemented a system that only allowed users with an account of 5 months old or something like that. If someone has an account for that long, im pretty sure they wouldnt abuse custom avatars (some would). In the event that someone actually abused that function would be pretty rare because im sure anyone here long enough wants a custom avatar. If they did abuse it and people happened to see something in-appropriate it would also be rare. The mods could just perma ban that user. This would prevent trolls from making accounts just to spam us with in-appropriate avatars....

There can be a rank called Member+ that you get promoted to once youve been here for 5 months (or whatever time is good) that allows you to have custom avatars.

Worth a shot

Phrog pilots, reckless and free. We would strap into our birds, set the engines on fire, and leave these earthly bonds with a chorus of WHOP WHOP WHOP. Akin to beating your chest and howling in defiance at the rest of the world.

Not to be pessimistic, but I still see people who have been here over a year act like jerks. Until someone creates software that detects sophomoric behaviour, it's probably not going to happen.

Besides, custom avatars aren't nearly as important as what's written next to them.

I don't know why the phrase "It will never happen" doesn't get through... You have to remember that it's not only because people will abuse custom avatars, us moderators and the theme masters get custom avatars as a perk of our contributions to the community. If "regular" members get that perk, then what do we have?

The knowledge that we're better than everyone else. Maybe not.

Account date counts for nothing. There are spammers who've been here for years, and good contributors who've been here for weeks...

Giving members the chance to spam the forums in another manner is certainly not "worth a shot".

I know there are spammers but the main fear of custom avatars are disturbing images like pr0n. If the spammers that have been here for a certain date were bad enough to put up avatars like that they would probably be banned by now. You cant really spam avatars except with disturbing images. The spammers who have been here for a while would probably not have these images. If they would, they could just get perma-banned and end of story.

It probably wont ever happen but it was just an idea that popped into my mind :\

And your probably right though, being a mod and theme master would probably be no fun at all if everyone had custom avatars. You could always give theme masters like blue text or something if it ever did happen

unfortunately, how long a person's been a member doesn't matter. a look through these forums on any given day will show you that a good portion of members on these forums willfully disobey the rules, even after being warned by moderators. These people can barely be trusted with the priviliges they currently have.

People who follow the rules are the exception, not the rule on these forums.

Erm, your titles?

But this has been settled before it's even begun- there will be no custom avatars uless Bungie hand picks the users that will receive them. I see no room for this to even be discussed, it's a non-issue.

This is a utopian concept.
Sounds good on paper but would never work in practice.

It is not worth a shot.

they should have avatar watchers who will make sure they are fine or they can change them back to the selection forever!

unless Bungie hand picks the users that will receive them.

Maybe mods could issue them to members as a privilege if they are respectable. But like DMB said that Achronos already addressed the issue but he said "as long as i'm here it won't happen". I do think that they could atleast look more closely into options for implementing them instead of making them available to all.
