The only way i see this working is if they will be bring back social and ranked playlists. And it would only be implemented into the social playlists. But i'm against the "Join Active Session" because i doubt anyone would like to join a game right before the last kill or cap...etc
I'd be down with the "join active session" system being implemented for social playlists only and arena or ranked playlists maintaining a non-join active session, but I wonder if the developers would entertain a blend of two matchmaking systems or if it would have to be one or the other for practicality purposes.
I really don't understand your and many other people comments / complaints about joining a game right before the last kill or cap... If you read my original post it explains that their isn't a risk in acquiring a loss unfairly by doing so. Also, if you joined just as the game ended, you would be getting a new game starting from the beginning pretty quickly which is a good thing. The only thing that really sucks with comparative "join session in progress" matchmaking systems that are implemented in other games is that your personal record takes a loss or win without consideration as to whether or not you fairly deserve it. The tweak I describe in the original post attempts to clarify that particular issue.
By looking at the way the poll has been going, I believe people have been reading the topic and immediately casting a vote... they have been unwilling to read further. They see the topic as... how dare you suggest adding a piece of Call of Duty to Halo... that's blasphemy! Halo's matchmaking system is sacrilege and tradition, never should it be altered, but disregard the truth of the matter that less and less people play Halo. The experience I've had is that the 80% or so of my friends list which was compiled while playing Halo 2 & Halo 3, should still be full of everyday Halo players, however, many of my friends are turned off by the matchmaking system itself. It wasn't a huge issue back in the day because the competition for a quality FPS on Xbox wasn't really there. It wasn't until Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came along that people started to appreciate another type of matchmaking system... and to be honest I and many others still preferred Halo's system because quitting wasn't as prevalent, people took pride in sticking a game out, playing till the end... likely because it was Halo the best FPS game on Xbox. Nonetheless, times have changed and with the growing experience of playing other FPS titles, many people have come to see the advantages of "Join Session in Progress", not to mention more people in the Halo games have come to realize that if they don't like the way a game is going they'd prefer to quit, maybe throw in a different game, instead of sticking it out and fighting. Point is that Halo requires a similar ability to fill in players for all the quitters that exist out there, to replace those who don't have that sense of pride to see a match reach it's conclusion. Maybe as suggested there could be two types of matchmaking, one for social play and one for ranked play. I think that would be an excellent method for blending what Halo has brought to the table over the years and what works best today for the hapless, carefree players who will quit the minute they realize a match will be a struggle.
