In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I've seen many threads in which moderators permitted political discussion, and may have even seen one in which a moderator acknowledged it.

Exactly. The rules are not circumstantial. Political and religious discussion are prohibited, end of story. The rule is not difficult to interpret.I don't think so, dude. A thread remaining unlocked is not necessarily the result of a moderator "permitting" political discussion. Threads that constitute or necessitate political discussion are routinely locked.
I don't know whether a Forum Ninja has ever "acknowledged" that a thread was political discussion without locking the thread, but I can tell you that if I had seen something like that, I would have locked it regardless of whether another moderator posted in it or not.
I remember the osama thread when he was killed.
That was political and created by Qbix.
I think sometimes there will be political threads if something of political/world significance occurs.
