Ad Infinitum

Halsey doesn't find out about Spartan III's until AFTER TFoR, correct? She finds Ackerson's files on Onyx and S-III, goes to Onyx and says "omg there are S-III? Damn you Mendez!"

Now here is my confusion. If she didn't know about Spartan III's until AFTER Reach took place, what does she think Noble Team is? I mean, if they were Spartan II's like Jorge, she would obviously recognize them right?

I don't really understand why she didn't go all "omg S-III??" when she saw Noble Team originally. Can somebody help clarify this?

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

That's one of the plot holes in Reach.

She knew that they were Spartans, but hadn't realised that there was a whole other group / project - the SIIIs.

She thought they were Spartan II class 2's. She never knew that project never game into fruition.

This is explained in her journal I believe.

GOD DAMNIT I NEED TO GET MY HANDS ON THAT JOURNAL.

Anyways, she was assigned to the Spartan II class 2 project untill it was delayed indefinitely. I doubt she would think the project was still done without her.

Honestly, this is a good cover up for all the idiots who won't know its a cover up .

Books are canon after the games.

I remember a bit from Glasslands that went something like halsey referencing Noble team and that they were strangers in mjolnir or something ('cept Jorge of course). GoO makes a point of Halsey knowing her own work inside-out. She'd recognise any of her spartans.

It means that if the games and books are in conflict the Games win. Meaning that there are never plot-holes based on the books in the games as they are auto-canonical.

Right near the beginning of Glasslands, Halsey references Noble Team. She talks about how the Spartan IIIs were made without her knowledge and how she suspected something was up when she met a group of Spartans that were not 'hers' but still dared to wear the armor of the Spartan IIs.

She thought they were either Spartan II Class IIs or soldiers from other projects. She never knew for sure there was a S-III class until she went to Onyx.

Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

She muses that they could have been a parallel project, like JAVELIN or something else, I believe.

I'd like to learn a bit more about JAVELIN, personally, as it seems to be another 'super soldier' project.

There are no canon tiers anymore since 343i took over according to Frankie i believe, its all just one (more or less) integrated universe. Thats the idea anyway. Taking into account retcon gymnastics like the journal and data drops, it does all seem to fit if you think about it and accept that war is sometimes damn hectic.

This is what I have always thought:

Remember when Mendez said that he was going to train the next Spartans? I think Halsey thought these were it, a second generation of Spartan IIs. It was too late to do anything about them, but when she found out about the Spartan IIIs (who she thought were an entirely new thing) she thought she could 'save' them. Whatever the reason, I think Halsey was loosing it in the end anyway.

Here is another question though. In Ghosts of Onyx, it explains how Kurt was supposedly different from the rest of the Spartan IIs due to certain characteristics. What about Jorge though? These characteristics seem even more prominent in Jorge than Kurt.

Interesting. I really need to start reading Grasslands then.
