I mean it's a clan, so they have their emblem and colors and other rules, but it's all easy stuff and they're a cool bunch of people. And there other Forgers who help out too. Had some people help me out with testing and feedback n stuff. And they play matchmaking together and other stuff. It's really quite... Well... Fun lol

How could a Halo game be so short-lived?

Three words: Call of Duty.

They finally killed Halo.

Back in the day, Halo was the revoultionary FPS game. It had fast gameplay, and it was one of the only FPS titles one could take to Live and play with friends. It was a solid game. There was no competition. Nothing else challenged it at all.

Halo 3 was in the same boat. Not only was it the sequel to the only game everybody knew and loved, but it STILL had no competition. Gears of War? Please. The Matchmaking was broken and laggy. Call of Duty emerged, but there was little customization and it only began making a name for itself.

By the time Halo 3 aged and ODST and Reach were talked about, Call of Duty had made a huge name for itself as one of the best games out there. It's not the most skilled, it's not the most consistant, it's not the most lag-free game, but what it is is appealing to the causals.

Call of Duty offers everything a gamer could want. It rewards every little thing you do with points and commendations. Anybody can get kills. You pop into a game, see an enemy, spray , and get a kill. If you get lucky, you are given streak rewards which make you feel all-powerful. That keeps you coming back. If you are getting creamed, the game lets you just quit out and instantly get placed into an easier game. You don't have to be 100% accurate with shots. You don't have to think where the enemy is because you respawn so fast. If you want competitive gameplay, the game offers S&D and hardcore which makes people feel good at the game. It has it all.

Halo: Reach was a good game by FPS standards. Yes, it strayed from Halo standards, but that isn't what killed it. The crowds who played Halo religiously are small in comparison to those who just want to play a fun game. Now that Call of Duty exists to offer a lot of streamlined, fun gameplay, people flock to that. I honestly believe it's of no fault of Reach that Halo's time in the spotlight has ended. Reach delivered a great, competitive FPS. It has some faults, yes, but it's still amazing. It's just that fewer people play it since it's harder and less rewarding. It's not impossible to get out-teamed and go 50-0. If you quit, you get banned. In Call of Duty you just play every match that lets you get your invincible airstrike streaks and quit when you start going negative. People don't want to try.

Fun > challenge and that's why Halo is dying.

I know. It's really sad too. Your parents shouldn't keep a computer in their basement with you. You can get in a lot of trouble. And don't you have anything better to do but troll?

*reminisces when the Bungie/Halo community wasn't made up of CoD kids*
*sighs*
*activates time-machine and sets the clock back to Nov. 9, 2004*
glory days here I come..
*vanishes*

Franchises die, but legacies live on, even if Reach was not the best way to end Bungie's Halo, which is funny because you guys all say it sucks yet it got great reviews.

CoD has taken over now.

2 Ridiculous comments. Reach wasn't messed up and there are hundreds of games better than CE, I think you should turn your tv on when you play video games

Fixed. Nothing Halo did could have saved the franchise, so long as it took as much skill to play as it did.

You've got to admit that the "casuals" are rapidly taking over. Yes, there are still core titles, but they are greatly outnumbered by generic, family oriented titles. Kinect and Wii are gaining popularity with each passing month.

And CoD has had a big part in Reach's demise. I'm no butt-kissing fanboy, but it's sad to see the series in the state it's in. Bungie could have done MUCH better.

They could have done things like the Beta earlier, but other than that I agree.

Yes, actually. People started flocking towards the game built for casuals. It's easy, fun, rewarding, and it doesn't force you to take losses like Halo does. Why do you think no other game can compete? Gears 3, Battlefield 3, Red Dead, FIFA, Halo, EVERY other game all fall to not only Black Ops but Modern Warfare 2 as well.

Two Call of Duty games took over Live and have more players than any other game released for a number of YEARS. The taste of the population switched from the skilled gameplay Halo, and others, offered to the easy gameplay that Call of Duty offers.

Bungie messed Reach up. They didn't follow the canon, they aren't supporting the game, it's just annoying.

All you have to do is add extreme casual elements that don't affect the core of the skillful gameplay. It's really not that hard.

Here's what Reach did: Added slightly casual elements in a manner that destroyed competitive gameplay. In essense, the tryhards and the casuals both have a lackluster experience; the tryhards have a vastly inferior competitive experience in contrast with previous Halos, and the casuals have a vastly inferior casual experience in contrast with games like CoD.

Reach pleased a minority - those in between the two extremes.

It's obviously more probable for millions of gamers to change their tastes than it is for a game to -blam!- up and not please their tastes. All in 3 or 4 years, too.

Welcome to the internet. Joy dies here.

How long did ODST last? I mean, I know MM is a big difference, but both Reach and ODST are side-games. Developers make side-games for niche markets. Halo is a difficult series to compare, mainly because it's been so mainstream for so long, but it's still a series like any other.

Another factor to take into account are the number of big titles releasing. There have been a few already (such as Gears 3 and Starcraft II) and there are quite a few coming out in the immediate future (such as Skyrim). The video games market is seeing a lot more turn-over now than it did when Halo 3 launched. You could argue that Halo 3 had more dedicated players, but I feel the alternative games available at the time didn't have the same replay value that H3 did.

Reach also added ENORMOUS amounts of customization to their game. You can make a map be whatever you want. You can make the game play however you want. Despite both of those, customs aren't really played as much as they were and the population didn't stick.

MLG has the ability to set the settings to whatever they think would be the most competitive. Now they even have no bloom in addition to faster kill times and movement speed. Casuals have Action Sack, SWAT, Team Snipers, etc. The game did a number of things to please people in every crowd. It doesn't matter when your whole fanbase is gone to easier waters.
