No point to it, when you think about it.

A game can't be the center of attention for ever, no matter how good a run it has. Will CEA compete and bring Halo back? Who knows. I'm skeptical of 343i's skills, I'll admit that much.

Casuals got -blam!- OVER! on Reach.
You're stupid to think otherwise.

Baffled into submission

Why are you here?

Maybe because Reach just isn't fun?

Reach will be played on my console, until they shut the server that manages it, off. Whether thats 4 months away, or three years away - is anyones guess.

I admit Halo Reach has gotten a bit dull now, lot of new games coming out. I think when Anniversary comes out it will bring back some of the old fans of Halo and some fans who just like new maps. But still I don't think Reach will be as popular any more, I'll probably start playing Skyrim a lot after I'm done with Anniversary and start waiting for Halo 4.

Sadly, every since Bungie went dark the population has decreased every day. I have never thought I would see this day either that Halo is actually dying. Right now many different games are being released and Reach is taking a bit hit population wise, also on the forums.

I remember what Halo was always the top of the leaderboards. I guess more stuff should have gone on sooner than later with updating Reach to keep fans interested. Halo is slowly becoming a thing of the past. :/

Who's got AIDS?

The series had one of the best runs of any video game series. It'll eventually die.

OP, I thought this was old news. Bungie butchered Halo, much like George Lucas butchered Indiana Jones. I have faith in 343i, but I am never again buying a Bungie game. They lied to their fans, ran Halo into the ground, and rode off with our money. -blam!- them.

Assuming 343i does it right, Halo 4 should bring some back. It's not over until it's over.

Please...stop getting butthurt when I noscope you from the passenger seat of the vehicle I'm riding in :D

I think 343 is doing the right thing by taking Reach back to CEA's and 2's roots in terms of gameplay. I'm excited to see how it turns out playing with classic settings on classic maps :D

Reach also added ENORMOUS amounts of customization to their game. You can make a map be whatever you want. You can make the game play however you want.
Customization is a neutral element, neither very casual nor very competitive. Also, the simple uttering of said customization is very misleading to the feel that it actually produces, which is arguably why the game had a ridiculous population at release.
Posted by: An average gamer
Despite both of those, customs aren't really played as much as they were and the population didn't stick.
Because, again, customization is not a casual element. Gain and sense of accomplishment is, neither of which appear in custom games.

MLG has the ability to set the settings to whatever they think would be the most competitive. Now they even have no bloom in addition to faster kill times and movement speed.
Please, just don't even make this argument. Please. There are so very, very, very many factors that make Reach unplayable competitively that aren't customizable, and I don't think you could even change them with a TU. For example, the scope - the range of weapons, the RoFs of weapons, the movement acceleration (which is ridiculously slow compared to Halo 3's, which is ridiculously slow compared to Halo 2's, which is about the same as Halo CE's), etc etc etc. Reach -blam!- up in so many regards that it's not even funny, and I feel sorry for people who are going to go into CE:A's matchmaking and expect a real Halo experience; you can only polish a turd so much.
qft. if there ever was one thing I disliked about Reach it's how slugish that game is. everything feels like it's moving through syrap!

How could a Halo game be so short-lived?

Three words: Call of Duty.

They finally killed Halo.

Back in the day, Halo was the revoultionary FPS game. It had fast gameplay, and it was one of the only FPS titles one could take to Live and play with friends. It was a solid game. There was no competition. Nothing else challenged it at all.

Halo 3 was in the same boat. Not only was it the sequel to the only game everybody knew and loved, but it STILL had no competition. Gears of War? Please. The Matchmaking was broken and laggy. Call of Duty emerged, but there was little customization and it only began making a name for itself.

By the time Halo 3 aged and ODST and Reach were talked about, Call of Duty had made a huge name for itself as one of the best games out there. It's not the most skilled, it's not the most consistant, it's not the most lag-free game, but what it is is appealing to the causals.

Call of Duty offers everything a gamer could want. It rewards every little thing you do with points and commendations. Anybody can get kills. You pop into a game, see an enemy, spray , and get a kill. If you get lucky, you are given streak rewards which make you feel all-powerful. That keeps you coming back. If you are getting creamed, the game lets you just quit out and instantly get placed into an easier game. You don't have to be 100% accurate with shots. You don't have to think where the enemy is because you respawn so fast. If you want competitive gameplay, the game offers S&D and hardcore which makes people feel good at the game. It has it all.

Halo: Reach was a good game by FPS standards. Yes, it strayed from Halo standards, but that isn't what killed it. The crowds who played Halo religiously are small in comparison to those who just want to play a fun game. Now that Call of Duty exists to offer a lot of streamlined, fun gameplay, people flock to that. I honestly believe it's of no fault of Reach that Halo's time in the spotlight has ended. Reach delivered a great, competitive FPS. It has some faults, yes, but it's still amazing. It's just that fewer people play it since it's harder and less rewarding. It's not impossible to get out-teamed and go 50-0. If you quit, you get banned. In Call of Duty you just play every match that lets you get your invincible airstrike streaks and quit when you start going negative. People don't want to try.

Fun > challenge and that's why Halo is dying.

Very well put. Times, they are a changing...

This.

Im a Bungie veteran. I have and always will serve them well.

CEA was intended for the fans of Halo. I do think there will be an increase of players; however, I do not think it will be as big as like COD.

Sounds retarded to be honest.

The community changed, big time.
Todays community is going through a process in what they call "infantilization". They have basically become spoilt.

Let me explain:

Back when Halo CE was one of the biggest games, there was really nothing else to compare.

Today, the community (consumers) are used to getting new things every year. They are also given or told they are better. So now, anything old has become expendable.

It doesn't matter if a game has quality, today's community will continue to move on to the next game simply because it is new and shinny.

There are people who do with what they have, sticking to old games, maybe because they are cheap, or because the recognize that the game is fun to them.

People don't like change.
People want Master chief.
That's pretty much all there is to it...

I understand small change is okay in a series but i felt the transition was too strong between Halo3-Reach. I'm sure many players feel that way.

R.I.P. Halo 2 <33333333
Do not play halo much anymore. Barely ever come on here.

I think the "true/original" halo is gone, now only the new halo reach style game will exist.

I'm a big Halo fan. I bought my Xbox for H2 and the 360 for Halo 3. Been playing since CE in 2002 and I never thought I'd see the day when Halo was no more. Been with this forum since VGA reveal.

This game and forum are pretty much dried up by now. What happened to my favorite game series? Why is it that when you mention Reach, all people do is laugh in disgust? Is the laughter their way of showing their disappointment?

Within 6 months, Reach will be a thing of the past. How could a Halo game be so short-lived? These games used to last for years. Reach barely even lasted for one. 343i's forums aren't even as active as this one used to be.

Do you think CEA will revive Reach somewhat, or is Halo just a fad beginning to burn out?

Couldn't agree more. Halo 1 through 3 felt like more than games. They were fantastic experiences with friends. I was so excited for Reach until I played it. It had nothing of feel that made Halo so great. It is so sad because I was expecting another great Halo game to enjoy for years, not this mediocre game to play for a month or two. It used to be that Xbox was Halo. Now, Halo is hardly worth a mention, except for over hyped marketing campaigns. In my opinion, even COD went in a better direction.
